Students of Mukand Lal National College participate in an NSS orientation programme and blood donation awareness rally in Yamunanagar.
Students introduced to community service, social responsibility and nation-building as they launch awareness drive for 54th Blood Donation Mela

Mukand Lal National College, Yamunanagar, organised an NSS Orientation Programme to familiarise students with the objectives, values and activities of the National Service Scheme and encourage them to take an active role in community service. The programme focused on developing social responsibility among students and motivating them to contribute meaningfully to society and nation-building.
The programme began with an address by the Senior NSS Captains, who introduced students to the motto, objectives and working framework of the National Service Scheme. The students were informed about the different activities undertaken through NSS and were encouraged to become active volunteers and participate in initiatives aimed at addressing social concerns.
During the orientation, students were briefed about a range of activities associated with NSS, including blood donation camps, tree plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns and public awareness programmes. The sessions highlighted how participation in such activities can help students understand social challenges while developing leadership, teamwork and organisational skills.
The students were encouraged to look beyond academic responsibilities and recognise their role as responsible members of society. They were urged to participate in activities that can create positive change at the community level and contribute to larger national objectives.
A key feature of the programme was a blood donation awareness rally organised by the students. The rally was aimed at creating awareness among residents of the surrounding areas about the importance of blood donation and encouraging them to participate in the 54th Blood Donation Mela scheduled to be held at the college on September 5.
Students used the awareness rally as an opportunity to communicate the importance of voluntary blood donation to people in nearby areas. Their participation reflected the NSS emphasis on community engagement and encouraged them to take responsibility for spreading awareness about socially significant causes.
The upcoming blood donation mela will be the college’s 54th such event, making it an important part of its continuing community-oriented activities. Through the awareness campaign, NSS volunteers sought to encourage members of the public to come forward and contribute to the initiative.
The orientation programme also gave students an understanding of how NSS activities can complement formal education. Participation in community service allows students to interact with different sections of society and develop practical experience in communication, coordination and public engagement.
The programme was organised under the guidance of NSS Programme Officers Dr Rahul Singh, Dr Umang Bareja and Dr Ankur. Their guidance helped students understand the responsibilities associated with NSS volunteering and encouraged them to participate actively in upcoming activities.
Senior NSS Captains Shreya, Gaurav, Mandeep and Riddhima played an important role in the successful conduct of the programme. They assisted with programme coordination, registration, attendance, arrangements and other organisational responsibilities.
Their involvement demonstrated the role senior student volunteers can play in helping new participants understand the functioning of NSS. By taking responsibility for different aspects of the programme, they also provided practical leadership experience to themselves while supporting the orientation of fellow students.
Students participated enthusiastically throughout the programme and expressed interest in becoming more actively involved in NSS activities. Their response reflected an eagerness to engage in community-oriented programmes and contribute to initiatives focused on social welfare and public awareness.
The orientation also reinforced the broader message that youth participation is essential for building a socially responsible society. Students can contribute to communities through relatively simple but meaningful activities such as cleanliness drives, plantation programmes, awareness campaigns and voluntary blood donation initiatives.

College Principal Dr Manohar Goyal appreciated the efforts of the NSS officers and volunteers in organising the programme and conducting the awareness activities. He encouraged students to participate actively in programmes connected with social welfare and national interest.
Dr Goyal emphasised the importance of student involvement in community and nation-building activities. He praised the commitment shown by NSS officials and volunteers and urged students to take greater interest in initiatives that benefit society.
The principal’s encouragement also highlighted the institution’s support for student-led community engagement. By encouraging young people to participate in social activities alongside their academic pursuits, the college seeks to promote a broader understanding of education and responsibility.
The blood donation awareness rally provided a practical extension of the orientation programme. Instead of limiting the event to an introduction to NSS, students immediately engaged with the community and encouraged local residents to participate in the upcoming blood donation event.
The initiative also helped students understand the importance of communication and public outreach. Engaging with residents during an awareness campaign requires confidence, coordination and the ability to communicate a social message effectively.
The combination of orientation and community outreach therefore gave students an opportunity to understand the objectives of NSS while putting those principles into practice.
