The Anti-Narcotics Cell of Yamunanagar Police has arrested a man allegedly in possession of 50 grams of heroin (smack) during a late-night operation in the Pratap Nagar area as part of the district police’s intensified crackdown on drug trafficking.
According to police, the accused has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and was produced before a court, which granted police remand for further interrogation.
Police spokesperson said the action was carried out under the directions of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, who has instructed all units to intensify operations against narcotics trafficking across the district.
Anti-Narcotics Cell In-charge Anil Kumar said the team received specific intelligence that a man would arrive on a motorcycle carrying narcotics near Herbal Park on Bhud Kalan Road in Pratap Nagar.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team comprising Sub-Inspector Satish Kumar, Naveen Kumar, ASI Rajender Singh, Pankaj and Vimal laid a trap at the identified location.
During the operation, the suspect was intercepted and searched in the presence of Duty Magistrate and AETO Ankit Yadav, following legal procedures. Police said 50 grams of heroin (smack) were recovered from his possession.
The accused was identified as Abdul Wahab, son of Mohammad Ilyas, a resident of Bhud Kalan.
Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and launched a detailed investigation to trace the source of the contraband and identify the wider drug distribution network.
Officials said investigators are questioning the accused to determine where he procured the heroin and to whom it was intended to be supplied. Police are also verifying whether the accused has any previous criminal record related to narcotics or other offences.
The Yamunanagar Police reiterated their commitment to taking stringent action against drug traffickers and appealed to citizens to share information about narcotics-related activities to help curb the menace.
