On Guru Purnima, Haryana Chief Minister seeks blessings of Gita Manishi Swami Gyananand Maharaj; says Kurukshetra is being developed as a global centre of Gita philosophy

Reiterating the Haryana Government’s commitment to preserving India’s spiritual heritage, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday said the state is actively working towards integrating the Bhagavad Gita into the education system while pursuing the vision of taking the timeless message of the sacred text to every household.
Speaking on the occasion of Guru Purnima after offering prayers at the Radha Krishna Temple of the Gita Gyan Sansthan in Kurukshetra, the Chief Minister described the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita as far more than a religious scripture, calling it “a complete science of life” that offers timeless guidance on duty, knowledge, devotion and righteous action.
“The Bhagavad Gita is not merely a religious text; it provides a practical philosophy for life. Its teachings on karma, dharma, knowledge and devotion continue to inspire individuals and societies alike. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Haryana Government is taking forward development while preserving India’s cultural and spiritual values,” Saini said.

The Chief Minister met Gita Manishi Swami Gyananand Maharaj, honoured him with a ceremonial shawl and presented fruits and sweets as a mark of respect in keeping with the Guru-Shishya tradition. He also offered prayers in the temple and prayed for the peace, prosperity and well-being of the people of Haryana.
Describing Guru Purnima as a celebration of India’s rich Guru-Shishya tradition, Saini said Kurukshetra occupies a unique place in world history as the land where the Bhagavad Gita was revealed.
“From the sacred land of Kurukshetra, the world received the eternal wisdom of the Gita. For decades, Swami Gyananand Maharaj has dedicated his life to spreading its message. His work continues to inspire generations,” he said.
Highlighting the state’s long-term vision, the Chief Minister said Haryana is transforming Kurukshetra into an international Gita city, with landmark spiritual destinations such as Brahma Sarovar, Jyotisar and the Gita Gyan Sansthan playing a central role in promoting the philosophy of the Gita globally.
He also noted that the International Gita Mahotsav has evolved into one of the world’s largest cultural events, attributing its growing success to the blessings and guidance of spiritual leaders like Swami Gyananand Maharaj.
Saini further said the teachings of the Gita encourage selfless service and gratitude towards teachers, parents and society.
“Our government is working on the principle of Antyodaya, ensuring welfare programmes reach the poor, farmers, women and youth. Inspired by the Gita’s message of selfless action, we are committed to achieving the vision of a Developed India and Developed Haryana by 2047,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Gita Manishi Swami Gyananand Maharaj described the Chief Minister as a “Karmayogi”, saying he had served the people of Haryana with dedication in a short span of time.
He praised the government’s efforts to popularise the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and said its philosophy instils discipline, dedication, patriotism and a sense of duty among citizens.
“The message of Karmanye Vadhikaraste remains one of the greatest sources of inspiration for today’s administrators and youth,” the spiritual leader said.
Among those present were Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena, Superintendent of Police Chandra Mohan, Sampoornanand Maharaj, Chairman Gurnam Saini, Media Coordinator Tushar Saini, Vice Chairman D.P. Choudhary, District President Ramesh Saini, along with devotees and other dignitaries.
