The Haryana Women Development Corporation, Yamunanagar, organised an awareness programme at the District Council Building in Jagadhri as part of the ongoing Entrepreneurship Fortnight, aimed at encouraging women and young girls to become financially independent and take advantage of various government welfare and entrepreneurship promotion schemes.
District Manager Kiran Bala said the programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from women and young girls, with around 50 to 60 participants attending the awareness session. During the programme, participants were provided detailed information about various welfare schemes being implemented for women’s empowerment, financial assistance, entrepreneurship development and higher education.
Kiran Bala said the Haryana Women Development Corporation is working to promote entrepreneurship among women and help them become self-reliant. Under various schemes, eligible women can be facilitated in obtaining loans from banks to start or expand their own businesses. In addition to financial assistance through bank loans, the corporation also provides subsidy support on eligible loans, helping women reduce their financial burden and encouraging them to establish independent sources of income.
She said entrepreneurship can play an important role in strengthening the economic position of women. By providing access to financial resources, institutional support and information about government schemes, the corporation aims to encourage more women to explore self-employment and business opportunities.
The District Manager further highlighted a significant initiative aimed at supporting girls and women pursuing higher education. She said that, in line with efforts to strengthen the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign and promote educational opportunities for girls, the corporation provides 5 per cent interest compensation on education loans for eligible students pursuing technical education, diploma courses, postgraduate programmes and other higher education courses.
The initiative is intended to ensure that deserving students are not deprived of higher education because of high interest rates on education loans. Financial assistance and interest compensation can help reduce the burden on families while encouraging girls and women to pursue professional, technical and higher studies.
During the programme, representatives of other government departments and organisations also interacted with the participants and shared information about schemes designed for the social and economic upliftment of women.
Vijay Kumar, District Manager of the Haryana Scheduled Castes and Finance Development Corporation, informed participants about welfare and financial assistance schemes available through his department. Rajinder, District Programme Manager of HSRLM, also shared information about programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening livelihood opportunities and promoting economic empowerment.
Regional Officer Sheesh Ram from the Industries Centre provided information about various schemes and opportunities available for women interested in entrepreneurship and business development. The officials encouraged women to remain aware of government initiatives and utilise available schemes according to their eligibility and requirements.
The programme focused on creating awareness about the importance of financial independence, skill development, entrepreneurship and education among women and young girls. Participants were encouraged to explore opportunities for self-employment and make use of institutional and government support available for starting their own ventures.
Officials said such awareness programmes are important in ensuring that information about welfare schemes reaches the intended beneficiaries. Many women, particularly those living in rural and semi-urban areas, may not be fully aware of the financial assistance, loan facilities, subsidies and livelihood opportunities available through different government departments.
The Entrepreneurship Fortnight programme provided participants with an opportunity to learn about multiple schemes on a common platform and interact directly with officials from concerned departments. The initiative also aimed to motivate women to move towards economic self-reliance and actively participate in entrepreneurship, education and skill development.
The Haryana Women Development Corporation continues to promote initiatives focused on women’s empowerment by supporting entrepreneurship, education and financial inclusion. Officials said awareness and access to information are essential for ensuring that more women can benefit from government schemes and create sustainable opportunities for themselves.
