Former Senior Deputy Mayor Pawan Bittu and Councillor Bhawna Bittu lead plantation drive in Rampura and Green Park, urging citizens to nurture every sapling

The nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign continued to gather momentum in Yamunanagar as a large-scale tree plantation drive was organised in Rampura and Green Park, reinforcing the message of environmental conservation while paying tribute to motherhood.
The plantation programme was led by former Senior Deputy Mayor Pawan Bittu and Municipal Councillor Bhawna Bittu, who joined local residents in planting fruit-bearing and shade-giving saplings. Participants also pledged to protect and nurture the newly planted trees to ensure their healthy growth.
Addressing the gathering, Pawan Bittu said the campaign symbolises the invaluable role of both mothers and nature in sustaining life.

“A mother gives us birth, while trees sustain life. The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign reflects this profound connection. Planting a tree is only the first step; caring for it is our collective responsibility. If every citizen plants and nurtures one tree in the name of their mother, Yamunanagar can become a greener and cleaner city,” he said.
Councillor Bhawna Bittu highlighted the growing environmental challenges posed by pollution and rising temperatures, saying trees remain one of the most effective natural solutions.
She urged women, youth and social organisations to actively participate in plantation drives and assured residents that the Municipal Corporation would continue monitoring and maintaining saplings planted in neighbourhoods and public parks.
Residents of Green Park and members of the local welfare association also participated enthusiastically in the campaign, underlining the importance of community involvement in environmental protection.
Among those present were Green Park Colony Welfare Association President Davinder Mehta, Som Prakash Oberoi, Seema Oberoi, Rimpi Seth, Bhajnik Monty Raja, Ward No. 9 Sanitation In-charge Bittu Singh, Subhash Dutta, and Naresh Nanda.
The organisers said the initiative is part of a broader effort to expand the city’s green cover and encourage citizens to make environmental stewardship a shared civic responsibility.
