The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and Research and Development Cell of DAV Girls College organised an extension lecture on research collaboration with industry partners, consultancy services and training opportunities. Dr Narottam Sharma, Managing Director of the Research and Innovative Scientific Studies Centre and DNA Laboratory, Dehradun, and Dr Ankita Sharma, Junior Scientist, were the keynote speakers.

In another programme organised jointly by the Institution Innovation Council and the PDP & Placement Cell, an extension lecture was held on the use of artificial intelligence in fundraising and preparing investment presentations. Alumni and Innovation Ambassador Khushi Kumari was the keynote speaker. The programmes were chaired by Acting Principal Dr Surinder Kaur, IIC Convenor Vivek and Research and Development Cell Co-Coordinator Dr Sunita Kaushik.

Addressing the students, Dr Narottam Sharma explained various training opportunities available in the field of biotechnology and guided them about the process of applying for employment opportunities in the sector. He encouraged students to make use of available training and research platforms to develop their professional skills and improve their career prospects.

Dr Ankita Sharma emphasised the importance of skill development and continuous skill enhancement. She motivated the students to explore opportunities in biotechnology and research and urged them to acquire practical knowledge along with academic qualifications.

During the session on artificial intelligence and fundraising, Khushi Kumari explained the key elements required to prepare an effective presentation for potential investors. She discussed important aspects including identifying the problem, presenting the proposed solution, understanding the target market, developing a business model, analysing competition, market-entry strategy, achievements, team structure, financial position and funding requirements.

She said artificial intelligence should be used as a tool to strengthen the founder’s thinking and decision-making capabilities rather than replacing them. She also stressed the importance of verifying market and financial data before presenting it to investors. According to her, information should not be included in an investment presentation without proper verification and supporting evidence.

The sessions provided students with practical insights into research, biotechnology, entrepreneurship, professional training and the responsible use of emerging technologies. The interaction also enabled students to understand how academic knowledge can be connected with industry requirements, innovation and career opportunities.

Students actively participated in the programmes and interacted with the speakers on issues related to research, biotechnology, entrepreneurship, investment presentations and artificial intelligence. The experts responded to their queries and provided guidance on developing skills relevant to emerging career opportunities.

The college authorities said such extension lectures are intended to provide students with exposure beyond the classroom and help them understand contemporary developments in research, innovation, entrepreneurship and technology.

Dr Parmesh Kumar and Mamta Thapar contributed to the successful organisation of the programmes.
