Accused allegedly stole motorcycles from Civil Hospital Jagadhri and Gaba Hospital area; sent to judicial custody

The Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell of Yamunanagar Police has arrested an alleged motorcycle thief and recovered three stolen motorcycles from his possession, according to the police. The accused was produced before a court and subsequently sent to judicial custody. Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
According to the police spokesperson, the action was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal as part of the district police’s ongoing campaign against vehicle theft and other criminal activities.
Rajesh Kumar, in-charge of the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell, said the team had received secret information that a youth carrying a stolen motorcycle would pass through the Fatehpur canal bridge towards Uttar Pradesh. Acting on the information, a special police team comprising Head Constable Harbilas, Sumit, Sandeep, Yogesh and Naresh was constituted.
The team reached the suspected location and established a naka. Vehicles passing through the area were subjected to detailed checking. After some time, a young man approaching on a motorcycle was spotted by the police team. He was stopped and the motorcycle was checked.
During the initial verification, the documents of the motorcycle were found to be suspicious. The police subsequently questioned the youth in detail. During interrogation, the motorcycle was allegedly found to be stolen.
The accused was identified as Kamil, son of Ashiq, a resident of Ganganagar Colony, according to the police. During questioning, he allegedly disclosed that he had stolen the motorcycle from Civil Hospital, Jagadhri, in January 2023.
Police said further questioning led to the recovery of another motorcycle allegedly stolen by the accused. According to the investigation, the second motorcycle had reportedly been stolen from outside Gaba Hospital on July 9, 2026.
A third motorcycle was also recovered during the investigation. Police said the engine number and chassis number of this motorcycle had been scratched off, allegedly in an attempt to conceal its identity and make its tracing more difficult.
The recovery of three motorcycles is being treated by the police as an important development in the investigation of vehicle theft cases in the district. Investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding the thefts and are also checking whether the accused may be connected with other similar incidents.
Police officials said vehicle theft remains an important area of concern because stolen motorcycles and other vehicles can subsequently be used for various criminal activities. The Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell has therefore been conducting surveillance, checking suspicious vehicles and developing information about habitual offenders.
The police spokesperson said that the accused was produced before the court following his arrest. The court sent him to judicial custody. Police are continuing their investigation to establish the complete sequence of events and identify any other possible vehicle thefts linked to the accused.
The police are also examining the recovered motorcycles and their records to establish their ownership and verify the circumstances under which they were reported stolen. The scratched engine and chassis numbers of one of the recovered motorcycles are also being examined as part of the investigation.
Officials said the recovery demonstrates the importance of intelligence gathering, vehicle checking and coordinated action by specialised police teams. The Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell will continue to take action against persons involved in vehicle theft and related offences.
The district police have also appealed to vehicle owners to remain vigilant about the security of their motorcycles and other vehicles. Citizens have been advised to park vehicles at secure locations, use appropriate locking systems and avoid leaving vehicles unattended in vulnerable places.
Police further urged members of the public to immediately report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the police. Timely information from residents can assist investigators in preventing thefts and tracing stolen property.
The police spokesperson said the district police would continue its campaign against vehicle theft and take strict legal action against those found involved in such offences.
The investigation into the three recovered motorcycles and the accused’s alleged involvement in other vehicle theft cases remains in progress.
