Yamunanagar Deputy Commissioner Preeti has been honoured by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for the outstanding success of the state’s ‘Nashe Se Jung, Yamunanagar Ke Sang’ public awareness campaign, which witnessed unprecedented participation from citizens and reinforced the district’s commitment to building a drug-free society.

The recognition was presented by the Chief Minister in appreciation of the district administration’s effective planning and execution of a series of anti-drug awareness programmes, including a massive public awareness run that attracted nearly 70,000 participants, making it one of the largest citizen-driven campaigns against substance abuse in the district.

Expressing gratitude after receiving the honour, Deputy Commissioner Preeti dedicated the recognition to the collective efforts of the entire district rather than claiming it as an individual achievement.

“This honour belongs to the entire district administration, police department, education department, health department, voluntary organisations, social institutions, students and every citizen who actively participated in making this campaign a success. It is a matter of pride for the whole district,” she said.

The Deputy Commissioner said the overwhelming participation of nearly 70,000 citizens demonstrated that the people of Yamunanagar stand united against drug abuse and are determined to protect the younger generation from the devastating effects of narcotics.

She noted that the campaign had evolved into a mass public movement, bringing together government departments, educational institutions, civil society organisations and local communities under a common objective of creating awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, the remarkable public response has encouraged the administration to further strengthen anti-drug initiatives across the district. She announced that a series of awareness programmes, rallies, marathons, pledge ceremonies, school and college outreach activities and public interaction campaigns will continue in the coming months to educate people, especially youth, about the harmful consequences of drug addiction.

“Our objective is not merely to organise events but to build a sustained social movement where every citizen contributes towards making Yamunanagar and Haryana drug-free,” she said.

Deputy Commissioner Preeti also appealed to residents to actively support the administration in its fight against illegal narcotics by reporting any suspicious activity related to the sale or distribution of drugs.

She assured citizens that anyone providing information about drug trafficking would have their identity kept strictly confidential, while those involved in the illegal drug trade would face stringent legal action.

The Deputy Commissioner further stressed that society should not only focus on law enforcement but also on rehabilitation and recovery. She urged people to inform the administration if they know anyone struggling with drug addiction so that timely medical treatment, counselling and rehabilitation services can be provided.

“Drug addiction is a social challenge that requires both strict enforcement and compassionate rehabilitation. Every person rescued from addiction is another life restored to society,” she said.

Highlighting the importance of community participation, Preeti called upon residents to spread awareness within their families, neighbourhoods and workplaces and encourage young people to stay away from drugs through positive engagement, sports, education and healthy lifestyles.

She said the success of the campaign reflects the growing public awareness that drug abuse threatens not only individuals but also families and society as a whole. The administration, she added, will continue working in close coordination with police, educational institutions and community organisations to sustain the momentum generated by the campaign.

The Deputy Commissioner reaffirmed that the district administration remains fully committed to the Haryana Government’s vision of a drug-free Haryana, adding that collective public participation will remain the strongest weapon in achieving this goal.

She concluded by thanking every citizen, volunteer, student and government employee who contributed to the success of the campaign and urged them to continue supporting future anti-drug initiatives to safeguard the future of coming generations.
