The Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell of Yamunanagar police has arrested two men in connection with vehicle theft cases and recovered a motorcycle and an Activa scooter allegedly stolen by them, police said. The accused were produced before a court and subsequently sent to judicial custody.

According to the police spokesperson, the arrests were made while the district police were acting under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. The Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell had received confidential information that two men would allegedly attempt to cross the Kalaunaur border and enter Uttar Pradesh on a stolen motorcycle.

Acting on the tip-off, the team set up a checkpoint and began checking vehicles in the area. Police said two young men approaching on a motorcycle allegedly tried to flee after noticing the police team. The personnel pursued them and apprehended them a short distance away.

The operation was conducted by a team formed under the direction of Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell in-charge Rajesh Kumar. The team included Head Constables Harbilas, Ravinder, Sandeep, Jitender, Yogesh and Naresh.

Accused Identified; Stolen Vehicles Recovered

Police identified the arrested men as Mohit, son of Ajay, a resident of Azad Nagar, and Sagar, son of Naresh Kumar, a resident of Laxmi Nagar.

During questioning, the police allegedly linked the motorcycle recovered from the suspects to a theft reported outside the Yamunanagar bus stand on September 23. Investigators also said the two men had allegedly stolen an Activa scooter from outside the Jain temple near the Rest House on September 28.

The recovery of the motorcycle and scooter is part of the investigation into the alleged thefts. Police have not provided further details about the vehicles’ registration numbers or their owners in the information released.

Police Say Both Suspects Have Previous Cases

Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell in-charge Rajesh Kumar said that records showed four previous theft cases against Mohit and two against Sagar. According to the police, these cases are currently pending before the courts.

The existence of previous cases does not, by itself, establish guilt in the present matter. The allegations in the current case will have to be examined through the legal process.

Police said the two accused were produced before a court after their arrest and were sent to judicial custody. Further details about any additional cases or investigative steps were not included in the information provided by the police spokesperson.

Action Against Vehicle Theft

Vehicle theft remains a concern for residents who park motorcycles and scooters near public places, transport hubs and busy market areas. The police operation highlights the role of checkpoints and information-led action in investigating suspected vehicle thefts.

In this case, police said the team acted on a tip-off about the alleged movement of a stolen motorcycle towards the Kalaunaur border. The suspects were intercepted during vehicle checking, and investigators subsequently linked the recovered vehicles to two alleged theft incidents in September.

The police have said the arrests and recoveries form part of the district’s efforts to act against vehicle theft. The accused remain subject to the judicial process, and the allegations must be established in accordance with the law.

CASE STATUS

Police say the two accused have been sent to judicial custody. The allegations remain subject to court proceedings.
