The Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell of Yamunanagar Police has arrested a man in connection with the alleged theft of a motorcycle and recovered the stolen two-wheeler from his possession, police said. The accused was produced before a court and subsequently sent to judicial custody.

According to the police spokesperson, the action was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal as part of the district police’s continuing drive against vehicle theft. The investigation into the case is continuing.

Police Team Acts on Specific Information

Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell in-charge Rajesh Kumar said the team had received confidential information that a young man was allegedly moving around the Chauli village area near Bilaspur on a stolen motorcycle.

Acting on the information, a special police team comprising ASI Anil, Husn, constables Yogesh, Sumit, Sandeep and Hardeep was constituted. The team reached the suspected location and established a checkpoint to conduct intensive vehicle checking.

Police said that after some time, a young man was seen approaching the checkpoint on a motorcycle. The team stopped him and examined the vehicle and its documents.

Motorcycle Found to Be Stolen

According to police, the documents produced during the checking raised suspicion. During questioning, the police said, the rider was unable to satisfactorily explain the motorcycle’s ownership and circumstances.

The police subsequently identified the motorcycle as a stolen vehicle. During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that he had stolen the motorcycle from Bilaspur on January 19, 2023.

The accused was identified as Rohit alias Bholla, son of Satpal, a resident of Chauli village.

Police said the recovery of the motorcycle provided an important lead in the investigation and that further verification of the vehicle and circumstances surrounding the theft was being carried out.

Accused Sent to Judicial Custody

Following his arrest, Rohit was produced before the competent court. The court ordered that he be sent to judicial custody, the police spokesperson said.

Police officials said the investigation is continuing to establish all relevant facts connected with the stolen motorcycle. Investigators may also examine whether the accused has any connection with other vehicle theft incidents, subject to the findings of the ongoing investigation.

Police Continue Drive Against Vehicle Theft

The district police said action against vehicle theft remains one of its priorities. Officers have urged vehicle owners to remain cautious and take basic security precautions while parking motorcycles and other vehicles.

Police also appealed to residents to immediately inform the authorities if they notice any suspicious person, vehicle or activity in their neighbourhood.

Investigation Remains Underway

The police spokesperson reiterated that the arrest and recovery formed part of the district police’s continuing campaign to curb vehicle theft. Officials said strict action would be taken against those found involved in such offences in accordance with law.

The investigation will determine the complete circumstances surrounding the motorcycle’s alleged theft in 2023 and its subsequent recovery. Police may also verify the vehicle’s records and other available evidence as part of the investigation.

Police officials have appealed to residents to remain alert about the security of their vehicles and to report suspicious activity without delay. They have also reiterated that information provided by citizens can help police teams identify suspects and recover stolen property.
