Anti-Narcotics Cell brings together youth from Khadri and Nandgarh villages, encourages sports and participation in anti-drug marathon

As part of its ongoing campaign against drug abuse, the Yamunanagar Police organised a friendly cricket match between the villages of Khadri and Nandgarh, using sports as a platform to spread awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and inspire young people to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The initiative was organised by the Special Staff/Anti-Narcotics Cell-2 under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal as part of the district’s sustained anti-drug outreach programme. The match was inaugurated by Sub-Inspector Gurdayal Singh, who interacted with players from both teams and encouraged them to compete with discipline, sportsmanship and mutual respect. Addressing the gathering, Gurdayal Singh said sports play a vital role in shaping responsible citizens by instilling discipline, self-confidence and physical fitness. He emphasised that young people who actively participate in sports are naturally more inclined to stay away from drugs and other harmful addictions. “Drug abuse not only destroys an individual’s health but also adversely affects families and society. Every young person should stay away from narcotics and motivate others to do the same,” he said. The police officer noted that the district police are regularly conducting awareness programmes across villages to educate youth about the harmful consequences of drug addiction and encourage them to engage in constructive activities. He added that sporting events have become an important component of the campaign, helping promote healthy competition and social responsibility among young people. During the event, participants were also encouraged to register for and actively participate in the ‘Nashe Se Jung – Yamunanagar Ke Sang’ anti-drug marathon, scheduled to be held on July 26. Gurdayal Singh said greater public participation would strengthen the collective message against drug abuse and inspire more youth to embrace a healthy and disciplined way of life. The friendly match witnessed enthusiastic participation from players of both villages, while a large number of local residents gathered to cheer the teams. Concluding the programme, police officials appealed to the community to work hand in hand with law enforcement in building a drug-free society, stressing that collective public participation is essential to effectively combat the menace of narcotics. The event reinforced the message that sports, awareness and community involvement are among the strongest tools for protecting the younger generation from the dangers of drug addiction.
