A special cleanliness campaign was carried out at the auto market in Kuldeep Nagar Colony of Ward No. 16, Yamunanagar, as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative. The drive brought together more than 100 Municipal Corporation employees and local residents, with the focus on removing accumulated waste, cleaning drains and improving sanitation in and around the busy market area.

The campaign was conducted under the directions of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad. Chief Sanitary Inspector Amit Kamboj and Ward Councillor Sandeep Dhiman formally launched the drive by taking up brooms and joining the cleaning work. Their participation marked the beginning of an intensive operation aimed at addressing sanitation concerns in a locality where waste had reportedly accumulated over a period of time.

The cleanliness operation continued for around four hours and covered more than two kilometres. Municipal teams removed large quantities of waste from the auto market and adjoining areas. More than 12 tonnes of garbage were collected during the drive and transported to the waste plant at Kail for further disposal.

Special attention was also given to the drains in the area. Dirt and accumulated waste along roadsides and other public spaces were removed as sanitation workers worked to improve the overall cleanliness of the market and its surroundings. The exercise was intended not only to clear existing waste but also to encourage residents and shopkeepers to maintain the area after the municipal teams completed their work.

Civic Participation Stressed»

During the campaign, Municipal Corporation employees also interacted with local residents and urged them to adopt responsible waste-disposal practices. People were advised not to throw garbage in open spaces and to keep wet and dry waste separated. Officials and sanitation workers stressed that sustained public participation is essential if the benefits of special cleanliness drives are to continue beyond a single campaign.

Chief Sanitary Inspector Amit Kamboj said special cleanliness drives were being conducted in different parts of the city under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. He emphasised that the goal of maintaining a clean city could not be achieved through municipal action alone and that citizens also needed to participate actively in keeping public spaces clean.

Ward Councillor Sandeep Dhiman also appealed to residents to maintain cleanliness in the locality and cooperate with municipal sanitation teams. The appeal assumes particular importance in commercial areas such as auto markets, where regular movement of vehicles, customers and workers can generate considerable waste and place additional pressure on local sanitation arrangements.

Teams and Residents Join Hands»

The campaign was attended by Sanitation Inspectors Pradeep Dahiya and Sushil Sharma, SBM team expert Akash Kumar, Gagan, other Municipal Corporation employees and local residents. The participation of residents alongside sanitation workers reflected the campaign’s emphasis on community involvement in maintaining cleaner neighbourhoods.

The removal of more than 12 tonnes of waste from the Ward 16 auto market represents a substantial one-day cleaning effort. However, municipal officials and local representatives have also highlighted the need for continued cooperation from residents so that cleaned areas do not again become dumping points. Segregation of wet and dry waste, proper disposal and timely cooperation with sanitation workers remain important parts of that effort.
