Construction of the Open-Air Theatre and Auditorium in Sector 17 is targeted for completion by March 20, 2027, with the complex also planned to temporarily house the Municipal Corporation office

Mayor Reviews Progress and Construction Quality

Yamunanagar Mayor Suman Bahmani inspected the construction of the city’s Open-Air Theatre and Auditorium project in Sector 17 near Guru Arjun Nagar and directed officials to maintain construction quality and complete the ₹52.87-crore project within the stipulated timeline.

According to the Municipal Corporation’s project details, construction is targeted for completion by March 20, 2027. The project is being developed as a civic and cultural facility, with an open-air theatre, auditorium and supporting infrastructure planned within the complex.

During the inspection, the Mayor reviewed construction progress and assessed the quality of work and arrangements at the site. She directed the officials concerned to ensure that there was no compromise with construction quality and that the project was completed within the prescribed deadline.

Executive Engineer Vikas Dhiman, Assistant Engineer Surendra Dahiya, Councillor Priyank Sharma, Councillor Ankit Goyal and other Municipal Corporation officials and employees were present during the inspection.

Project Cost to Be Shared by Corporation and Haryana Government

The Open-Air Theatre and Auditorium is being constructed near Guru Arjun Nagar in Sector 17 under the Municipal Corporation’s Divya Nagar Scheme. The estimated cost of the project is ₹52.87 crore, with the Municipal Corporation and the Haryana government contributing 50 per cent each, according to the project information provided by the civic body.

The foundation stone was laid by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini through video conference from Panchkula on August 13, 2024. Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana subsequently performed the Bhoomi Pujan and laid the foundation for the construction work on December 2, 2024.

Open-Air Theatre Planned for Around 500 People

The project is being developed with facilities intended for cultural, social and other public programmes. The Open-Air Theatre is planned at the front of the complex, with an outdoor stage and seating capacity for around 500 people.

The theatre area will also include rooms for performers, including makeup rooms and other supporting spaces. The outdoor venue is intended to provide a dedicated setting for cultural programmes and community activities.

Auditorium to Have Seating for Around 1,000

An auditorium is being constructed behind the Open-Air Theatre for indoor programmes. It will have a stage and seating capacity for approximately 1,000 people.

The facility will include a VIP room, conference room and other supporting spaces. The hall and rooms intended for indoor programmes are planned to be air-conditioned. The project also includes green areas across the complex, while CCTV cameras are planned to strengthen security and monitoring within the premises.

Municipal Corporation Office Planned at the Complex Temporarily

Another planned use of the completed complex is to accommodate the Municipal Corporation office on a temporary basis. After construction of the Open-Air Theatre and Auditorium is completed, the existing Municipal Corporation office at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk is planned to be shifted to the complex.

A new Municipal Corporation office building is proposed opposite the DC Camp Office. Since construction of the new office building is expected to take around three years, the civic body plans to operate temporarily from the theatre and auditorium complex during the intervening period.

Municipal Corporation House meetings are also planned to be held at the complex after the office is shifted there. The proposed arrangement would give the project both cultural and administrative uses.

Project Adds to Yamunanagar’s Civic Infrastructure

The Open-Air Theatre and Auditorium is among the larger civic infrastructure projects being developed in Yamunanagar-Jagadhri.

The latest inspection focused on maintaining construction standards and meeting the revised completion target. The project is expected to provide dedicated spaces for cultural events, conferences, community programmes and other public activities once construction is completed.
