Congress leader Selja says students deserve accountability over recurring paper leaks; urges Centre to restore trust in public examinations

Sirsa MP, former Union Minister and Congress General Secretary Kumari Selja has expressed support for the concerns raised by social activist Sonam Wangchuk, stating that his ongoing fast has become a symbol of the anxiety and frustration faced by millions of students affected by recurring examination irregularities across the country. Selja said the issue extends far beyond an individual protest, reflecting the growing concern among young people over repeated paper leaks, weaknesses in the examination system and the absence of accountability. She asserted that the confidence of students is one of the strongest pillars of a democratic society and that governments have a responsibility to ensure a fair, transparent and credible examination process. The Congress leader said recurring incidents of question paper leaks and the failure to take decisive action against those responsible have severely impacted deserving candidates who prepare honestly for competitive examinations. She noted that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has consistently raised the issue in Parliament, demanding accountability from the Union Education Ministry and calling for the resignation of the Education Minister over repeated examination lapses. According to Selja, the Congress party has been standing firmly with students and youth for the past several weeks and will continue its campaign until those responsible are held accountable and meaningful reforms are introduced to safeguard the integrity of the examination system. Expressing concern over Wangchuk’s health, Selja appealed to him to end his fast while assuring that the Congress would continue to fight for students’ rights and a transparent examination framework.

Selja Urges Immediate Action to Protect Sirsa’s Fertile Farmland

In a separate statement, Selja voiced concern over reports of high sodium content (black alkali) in groundwater used by tube wells across several villages in Sirsa district, warning that the deteriorating soil quality could render thousands of acres of fertile agricultural land unproductive if timely intervention is not undertaken.She urged the government to move beyond merely seeking reports and instead conduct a comprehensive scientific survey of the affected villages. Selja also demanded free soil and water testing facilities for farmers, implementation of groundwater improvement measures and enhanced subsidies on gypsum and other soil reclamation materials. She said the government must take immediate, time-bound steps to safeguard agricultural land and protect the livelihoods of farmers in the region.
