Joint operation by police and Agriculture Department uncovers suspected diversion of fertiliser; probe launched under Essential Commodities Act and Fertilizer Control Order

Ajoint operation by the Yamunanagar Police and the Agriculture Department led to the seizure of a truck carrying 450 bags of agricultural-grade urea in the Radaur area of the district. The truck driver fled the spot after abandoning the vehicle, while officials suspect the fertiliser was being diverted for unauthorised industrial use. Police have registered a case under the Essential Commodities Act, the Fertilizer (Control) Order, and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation is underway to identify the driver and trace the ownership of the vehicle. Agriculture Inspector Bal Mukand said the department had received specific information that a truck carrying agricultural urea was moving through the Triveni Chowk checkpoint. Acting on the input, the Radaur police established a checkpoint and attempted to intercept a red truck without a registration number.On noticing the police, the driver allegedly abandoned the truck and fled from the scene.A team from the Agriculture Department subsequently reached the spot and inspected the vehicle. Officials found 450 bags of National Fertilizers Limited (NFL)-manufactured agricultural-grade urea, each weighing 45 kilograms, loaded in the truck.During the inspection, officials were unable to produce any invoice, e-way bill or other transport documents relating to the consignment. Samples of the fertiliser were collected and sent for laboratory examination. Officials suspect that the agricultural-grade urea may have been intended for unauthorised industrial use, a practice prohibited under existing regulations. However, they said the exact purpose of the consignment will be established only after the investigation is completed. Based on the complaint filed by Agriculture Inspector Bal Mukand, the Radaur police have registered an FIR and initiated further proceedings. Investigators are now attempting to identify the truck owner and the absconding driver through the vehicle’s chassis number and other technical evidence.
