Mayor Suman Bahmani calls for greater grassroots engagement as Municipal Corporation reviews local development, sanitation and civic priorities

The Yamunanagar-Jagadhri Municipal Corporation on Wednesday convened a meeting of Ward Committees at a private resort in Jagadhri to strengthen community participation in urban governance and improve the implementation of development and sanitation initiatives at the grassroots level.The meeting, chaired by Mayor Suman Bahmani, was attended by ward committee secretaries, municipal councillors, committee members, officials of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and senior Municipal Corporation officers. During the meeting, councillors and ward committee representatives highlighted local civic issues, development priorities and public grievances from their respective areas. Municipal officials assured participants that the concerns raised would be examined and addressed on priority. Addressing the gathering, Mayor Bahmani said active participation of ward committees would accelerate the city’s development and improve the delivery of civic services. She said the Municipal Corporation is committed to building a cleaner, greener and better-managed city while ensuring timely redressal of public grievances. She urged ward committees to work closely with residents, identify local issues at the grassroots level and facilitate their resolution through regular coordination with municipal authorities. The Mayor also directed committee secretaries and councillors to maintain official registers documenting meeting proceedings, recommendations and major civic issues from their respective wards so that these matters can be placed before the General House and senior officials for priority action. She announced that the most active ward committee would be honoured by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini in recognition of its contribution to public service and community participation. Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar briefed members on the powers, responsibilities and role of ward committees, describing them as an important link between citizens and the civic administration. He emphasised their role in identifying and resolving local issues related to sanitation, drainage, road maintenance, parks and other municipal services. Chief Minister’s Good Governance Associate (CMGGA) Abhishruti also addressed the participants and explained the operational framework, responsibilities and future roadmap for ward committees. She stressed the importance of sustained public engagement and regular dialogue in improving local governance and ensuring effective implementation of civic development projects.
