Yamunanagar Police arrested two accused and recovered a stolen tractor and motorcycle in a vehicle theft investigation.
Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell intercepts suspects during naka checking; police say one accused has five previous theft cases pending in court

Yamunanagar Police have arrested two alleged vehicle thieves and recovered a stolen tractor and a motorcycle from their possession during a naka checking operation, officials said. The action was carried out by the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal as part of the district police’s ongoing drive against vehicle theft and other property-related crimes.
Police said the two accused were intercepted after the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell received specific information that they were allegedly travelling towards Uttar Pradesh in a stolen tractor through the Kalanour area. Acting on the information, a police team was constituted and a naka was established to check vehicles moving through the identified route.
Rajesh Kumar, in-charge of the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell, said the team received information that two youths would attempt to take a stolen tractor through Kalanour towards Uttar Pradesh. Based on the information, a team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Randhir Singh, along with Sandeep, Naresh and Yogesh, was deployed to the location.
The police team began checking vehicles at the naka. After some time, two youths were seen approaching in a tractor. The team stopped the tractor and conducted verification. During the checking, police allegedly found that the tractor had been stolen.
The suspects were subsequently identified as Vishal Rana, son of Janeshwar Rana, a resident of Unhedi village, and Sunil alias Sonu, son of Virender Singh, a resident of Nagal Khajuri village.
According to police, questioning during the investigation revealed that the tractor had allegedly been stolen during the night of August 25-26 from Unhedi Farm village. Investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and the subsequent movement of the tractor.
Police also recovered a motorcycle allegedly linked to another theft case from the accused. Officials said the motorcycle had reportedly been stolen from Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar, on August 19.
The recovery of the tractor and motorcycle has provided investigators with important leads in the two alleged vehicle theft cases. Police are now examining whether the accused were involved in other vehicle theft incidents in the district or neighbouring areas.
Following their arrest, both accused were produced before a court and sent to judicial custody, police said. Further investigation into the cases is continuing.
Rajesh Kumar said investigators are examining the background of the accused and their possible involvement in additional offences. Police are also verifying available records and evidence to establish whether the accused have any links with other vehicle theft cases.
The police action forms part of the district police’s efforts to curb vehicle theft and identify repeat offenders. Specialised teams have been deployed to gather information about stolen vehicles and apprehend suspects involved in such offences.
Officials said information received about the movement of stolen vehicles is being verified and acted upon through checking and surveillance. In the present case, the information regarding the alleged movement of the stolen tractor towards Uttar Pradesh led the police team to establish a naka and intercept the suspects.
The investigation will also focus on determining how the allegedly stolen tractor and motorcycle were handled after the thefts and whether other individuals assisted the accused. Police said further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
A significant aspect of the case is the alleged previous criminal record of Vishal Rana. According to Rajesh Kumar, five theft cases have already been registered against him and are currently pending before the court. Police are examining these cases as part of their investigation into the latest allegations.
The police will also verify whether the accused have been involved in any other cases registered in Yamunanagar or elsewhere. Such verification is expected to help investigators establish the broader pattern, if any, of the alleged vehicle theft activities.
The recovery of a motorcycle allegedly stolen from Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar, has also expanded the scope of the investigation beyond the tractor theft. Investigators will examine whether the two alleged thefts were connected and whether the same individuals were involved in both incidents.
Police officials said vehicle theft remains a serious concern because stolen vehicles can be moved across district or state boundaries to make their recovery more difficult.
