Maharaja Agrasen College, Jagadhri, organised a three-day Communication Skills Workshop for first-year students of Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) under the joint aegis of the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Management. The workshop was conducted under the chairmanship of Professor Randeep and focused on strengthening students’ communication abilities, confidence, personality development and professional communication skills.
The workshop was organised with the objective of helping students understand the importance of effective communication in academic life as well as in their future professional careers. During the three-day programme, students were introduced to different aspects of communication and were encouraged to develop the confidence required to express their ideas clearly and effectively.
Addressing students during the concluding ceremony, College Principal Dr. Karuna said that the primary objective of the workshop was to develop communication skills, self-confidence, personality and professional communication abilities among students. She emphasised that communication is an essential skill for students pursuing higher education as well as those preparing to enter the professional world.
Dr. Karuna said that academic knowledge alone is not sufficient for achieving success in today’s competitive environment. Students must also be able to communicate their ideas, interact confidently with others, participate in discussions and present themselves effectively in academic and professional settings.
She said the college is giving special emphasis to skill-development activities so that students can strengthen their overall personality and improve their employability. Such workshops provide students with practical exposure and help them understand the expectations of higher education institutions, employers and professional organisations.
The Principal encouraged students to continue working on their communication abilities beyond the workshop and to make communication development a regular part of their academic and personal growth. She said confidence develops through practice, participation and continuous learning.
Professor Randeep, Head of the Computer Department and chairman of the workshop, said that communication skills workshops play an important role in preparing students for different stages of their future careers. He said students pursuing BCA and BBA courses will eventually have to communicate with teachers, colleagues, clients, employers and professional teams, making effective communication an essential part of their professional lives.
He explained that such workshops help students prepare for higher education, interviews, workplace interactions and professional responsibilities. Students who are able to communicate clearly and confidently can present their knowledge more effectively and develop stronger professional relationships.
During the workshop, the speakers discussed several important aspects of communication, including verbal communication, non-verbal communication, active listening and confident expression. Students were made aware that communication is not limited to speaking or writing but also includes body language, facial expressions, listening ability and the manner in which ideas are presented.
The sessions also highlighted the importance of active listening. Students were encouraged to listen carefully before responding and to understand the perspective of others. Effective listening, they were told, can reduce misunderstandings and improve communication in both academic and professional environments.
The workshop also focused on confident expression. Students were encouraged to overcome hesitation and express their thoughts in a clear and structured manner. They were guided on how confidence can influence presentations, interviews, group discussions and workplace interactions.
Another important aspect discussed during the programme was the role of communication in personality development. Students were encouraged to develop a positive approach, maintain professional behaviour and become comfortable while interacting with people from different backgrounds.
The speakers explained that strong communication skills can support students not only in their academic performance but also in future career development. In professional life, employees are often required to participate in meetings, make presentations, communicate with customers, work in teams and explain ideas to colleagues and supervisors.
For BCA and BBA students in particular, communication skills can complement their technical and management knowledge. While technical expertise provides professional competence, the ability to communicate that expertise effectively can significantly influence career opportunities and workplace performance.
The three-day workshop also provided students with an opportunity to interact with faculty members and participate in learning activities designed to improve their confidence. The sessions encouraged students to become more comfortable with communication situations that they are likely to encounter during higher education, job interviews and professional assignments.
The college said that skill-oriented programmes of this nature are part of its broader efforts to prepare students for changing academic and employment environments. With employers increasingly looking for candidates who possess both subject knowledge and interpersonal skills, communication has become an important component of employability.
The workshop concluded with the message that students should continue practising the skills developed during the programme. Regular reading, speaking, listening, presentation practice and participation in group activities were highlighted as effective ways to improve communication abilities over time.
The programme was described as informative and useful for the participating students. According to the college, the workshop helped promote confidence, leadership qualities and teamwork among the students while also making them more aware of the importance of professional communication.
The organisers said that the active participation of students contributed significantly to the success of the programme. Students showed interest in the sessions and gained a better understanding of how communication skills can influence their academic performance, personality development and future career prospects.
The successful organisation of the workshop was supported by Sheetal, Shalu, Ramanpreet, Garima and Manju, whose contribution was appreciated by the college.
The three-day initiative concluded with an emphasis on continuous skill development and the importance of combining academic knowledge with communication, confidence and professional abilities. The college administration expressed its commitment to providing students with further opportunities that can strengthen their skills and prepare them for higher education, employment and professional responsibilities.
