She emphasized that matters involving public faith and donations must be handled with the utmost transparency and accountability. In a statement issued on Saturday, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) member observed that millions of devotees have contributed money, gold, and other valuables to the Ram Temple out of deep religious devotion. She stressed that any concerns regarding the management or utilization of these contributions should be examined through a fair, impartial, and credible process.“Faith and accountability must go hand in hand. If all procedures have been followed in accordance with the law, an independent inquiry will reinforce public confidence. However, if any financial irregularities are identified, those responsible must be held accountable under the law,” Selja stated. She further clarified that the Congress Party holds deep respect for Lord Ram, Sanatan traditions, and the religious sentiments of millions of Indians. She added that seeking transparency in the management of public donations should not be misconstrued as questioning religious faith.Selja reiterated her demand that the investigation be conducted under the supervision of a sitting or retired Supreme Court judge to ensure credibility, independence, and public trust in the findings. The Congress leader also criticized the BJP-led Central Government for what she described as “unfulfilled promises,” citing commitments such as doubling farmers’ income, providing housing for every family by 2022, and depositing ₹15 lakh into every citizen’s bank account. She urged the government to prioritize accountability over political rhetoric. Additionally, Selja called for a comprehensive evaluation of demonetisation, stating that its stated objectives—eliminating black money, curbing corruption, and addressing counterfeit currency—should be assessed in light of its long-term impact on the economy, small businesses, and citizens. Referring to recent international crises involving Indian nationals abroad, she emphasized the need for governments to establish transparent mechanisms and ensure timely assistance and effective support for citizens facing emergencies overseas. Concluding her statement, Selja underscored that democracy is strengthened by transparency, accountability, and public trust, and that any issue involving the faith and contributions of millions warrants a fair, impartial, and credible investigation.
