A 20-year-old BBA-LLB student died during treatment after being seriously injured in a road accident at the Jagadhri bus stand in Yamunanagar on Wednesday evening. The young woman had reached the bus stand after returning from college and was reportedly supposed to meet her father before going to the market to purchase Rakhi and other items ahead of the festival.
The deceased has been identified as Aparna, a resident of Radhika Colony in Pratap Nagar. She was pursuing her BBA-LLB degree at MM College, Mullana. According to her family, she had travelled to Jagadhri after attending college and had asked her father to meet her at the bus stand.
The accident occurred at a time when the family was preparing to spend time together and shop for Rakhi-related items. However, the planned family outing turned into tragedy after Aparna was struck by a private bus while walking towards her father after getting off a government bus.
Father Had Reached Bus Stand to Receive Daughter
According to Aparna’s father, Pradeep Kumar, she had left home on Wednesday morning for college. Later in the day, she informed him that she would reach Jagadhri at around 4 pm and asked him to come to the bus stand to receive her.
Pradeep Kumar, who runs a grocery shop in Naushehra (Tatarpur) village of Uttar Pradesh, reached the Jagadhri bus stand at around 4 pm as requested. He was waiting for his daughter so that they could go to the market together.
The family had planned to purchase Rakhi and other household items. The occasion was expected to be a routine family shopping trip, but the situation changed within minutes.
According to the father, at around 5 pm, Aparna got down from a government bus and began walking towards him. At that moment, a private bus reportedly struck her.
She sustained serious injuries in the collision and fell at the bus stand. The incident immediately caused concern among people present at the location.
Seriously Injured Student Taken to Hospital
Following the accident, family members and people present at the bus stand helped take Aparna to Gaba Hospital in Yamunanagar for emergency medical treatment.
Doctors at the hospital provided initial treatment after assessing her condition. However, considering the seriousness of her injuries, she was subsequently referred to MM Hospital, Mullana, for further treatment.
The family took her to the referred hospital in the hope that she would recover. Despite efforts by doctors, her condition remained critical.
Aparna eventually died during treatment in the early hours of Thursday.
The news of her death left her family and acquaintances devastated. A young student who had left home for college that morning did not return home alive.
Police Begin Investigation
After receiving information about the incident, Jagadhri Police reached the hospital and initiated the required legal proceedings.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination. After completion of the post-mortem formalities, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
Investigating officer Sumit Kamboj said a case has been registered against the private bus driver in connection with the accident. Police are currently searching for the accused driver.
The investigating team is also examining the circumstances that led to the collision. Officials are expected to establish the exact sequence of events, including the movement of the bus and the student at the time of the accident.
Family Left Shocked by Sudden Death
The incident has caused immense grief among Aparna’s family. She was a young student pursuing professional studies and had reportedly planned to spend time with her father after returning from college.
Her father had specifically reached Jagadhri bus stand to receive her so that they could go shopping together. The accident occurred just as she had arrived at the bus stand.
The family was informed about her deteriorating condition following the accident and later received the devastating news of her death during treatment.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the movement of buses around busy public transport points. Bus stands generally witness heavy movement of passengers, buses, pedestrians and other vehicles, making caution and adherence to traffic rules particularly important.
Police Searching for Bus Driver
Police officials said the private bus driver named in the case is being searched for. Investigators are examining available information to establish the circumstances of the accident and determine responsibility.
The case has been registered following the family’s complaint, and further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the bus’s movement and the position of the student when she was hit. Any available witnesses and other relevant evidence may assist investigators in establishing the exact cause of the collision.
