RCC lanes and a stormwater line to improve connectivity and rainwater drainage for residents of the colony

The Municipal Corporation is undertaking development works worth crores of rupees across different wards of the city, with a focus on strengthening basic civic infrastructure and improving public amenities. As part of this ongoing development drive, Mayor Suman Bahmani and MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora on Thursday laid the foundation stone for development works worth ₹14.88 lakh in Ranjit Colony of Ward 20, in the presence of ward councillor Vikram Rana.
The project will include construction of two main RCC lanes in the colony along with the installation of a stormwater line. The three public representatives formally inaugurated the works by breaking a coconut, marking the beginning of construction activity in the area.
Mayor Suman Bahmani said the Municipal Corporation would construct RCC lanes from the house of Pradeep Chauhan to the house of Lovepreet and from Pal Sweets to Radhe Dry Cleaners. Along with the construction of the lanes, a stormwater drainage line will also be laid to improve the disposal of rainwater in the locality.
The Mayor said the proposed infrastructure would provide residents with better connectivity and improve rainwater drainage, particularly during the monsoon. Properly constructed lanes and an organised stormwater system are expected to make movement easier for residents while helping address problems caused by water accumulation during heavy rainfall.
She said strengthening basic civic amenities in every ward was among the priorities of the Municipal Corporation. Development works relating to lanes, drains, stormwater lines and other essential infrastructure are being undertaken on a priority basis, she said.
Bahmani emphasised that development should reach all parts of the city without discrimination. She said the Municipal Corporation was working towards improving basic facilities in every ward and that local requirements were being considered while planning infrastructure projects.
The Mayor also directed officials to ensure that the works are completed within the stipulated timeframe. She stressed that there should be no compromise on construction quality and instructed the concerned officials to maintain proper standards throughout the execution of the project.
The emphasis on quality control is particularly important for civic infrastructure such as RCC lanes and drainage systems, which are expected to serve residents for years. The Mayor said contractors and officials should ensure that the prescribed standards are followed during construction and that the works are completed properly rather than merely within the scheduled period.
MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora said the state government and the Municipal Corporation were giving priority to the development of the city. He said works related to roads, sewerage, drainage and other basic civic facilities were being undertaken continuously in different wards.
Arora said the development works being carried out in Ranjit Colony would provide considerable benefit to local residents. Improved lanes would facilitate movement within the locality, while the stormwater line would strengthen the drainage arrangement and help deal with rainwater-related problems.
The MLA also assured residents that other issues concerning the area would be taken up for resolution on a priority basis. He said continued development of basic infrastructure was necessary to improve the overall living conditions in residential colonies.
The foundation stone ceremony provided an opportunity for local residents and public representatives to discuss the area’s infrastructure requirements. The project has been planned to address two key civic needs—better internal road connectivity and improved rainwater drainage.
The construction of RCC lanes is expected to provide a more durable surface for daily movement compared with poorly maintained or unpaved stretches. At the same time, the proposed stormwater line is intended to provide a dedicated drainage arrangement for rainwater, potentially reducing waterlogging and inconvenience for residents during the rainy season.
Municipal Corporation officials accompanying the public representatives were also present during the commencement of the works. The Mayor reiterated that the civic body would continue to focus on essential infrastructure and that works would be monitored to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
The development project in Ranjit Colony is part of the wider infrastructure work being undertaken across the Municipal Corporation’s jurisdiction. The civic body has been taking up projects involving roads, drainage, sewerage, water-related infrastructure and other public amenities in different wards according to local requirements.
Bahmani said the objective was to ensure that residents receive better basic facilities in their neighbourhoods. She stressed that civic infrastructure directly affects the daily lives of residents and therefore requires regular attention, planning and maintenance.
The stormwater component of the Ranjit Colony project is particularly significant for improving local drainage. During periods of heavy rainfall, inadequate drainage can affect movement and create inconvenience for residents. The planned line is intended to improve the flow and disposal of rainwater from the area.
The Mayor said officials should remain attentive to residents’ concerns while implementing the project and ensure that the work progresses according to the approved plan. She reiterated that development works should be completed within the prescribed timeframe and that construction quality must remain a priority.
MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora said the government would continue to support development-related initiatives aimed at improving civic amenities. He said road infrastructure, sewerage and drainage facilities were important components of urban development and that efforts would continue to address requirements in different parts of the city.
Ward councillor Vikram Rana was present during the foundation stone ceremony and participated in the commencement of the development works. The project is expected to address infrastructure requirements raised by residents of Ranjit Colony.
The ceremony was attended by Assistant Engineer Surendra Dahiya, Junior Engineer Vishal Chauhan, BJP Mandal president Shubham Rana and general secretary Dinesh Mankat. Arjun, Parveen Rana, Parveen Kumar, Raghav Sharma, Balochan Singh, Vaibhav, Sanjeev Sharma, Jagdish Babbar, Nirmala Verma, Deepak Kumar, Shyam Lal, Jarnail Singh, Rahul Pandey and others were also present.
The commencement of the ₹14.88 lakh project marks another step towards improving basic infrastructure in Ward 20. With two RCC lanes and a stormwater line planned under the project, the civic body expects residents of Ranjit Colony to benefit from improved movement and better rainwater drainage.
The Municipal Corporation has reiterated that development works across the city’s wards will continue with a focus on essential public facilities.
