Two accused, arrested after an exchange of fire with police, recreate sequence of robbery and encounter during spot inspection

The Yamunanagar Police on Wednesday took two accused arrested in connection with the armed robbery of jeweller Amit Gupta to the crime scene for reconstruction of the incident after they were discharged from hospital.
The accused identified key locations linked to the robbery and the subsequent police encounter as part of the ongoing investigation.
The exercise was carried out by the Radaur Police Station under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal.
Investigators said the spot inspection was conducted to verify the sequence of events and collect additional evidence required for the case.
Station House Officer Rajesh Kumar said the two accused had sustained gunshot injuries during a police encounter earlier this month and were admitted to hospital for treatment.
Following their discharge on Wednesday, they were brought to the scene where they pointed out the locations connected with the robbery as well as the encounter with the police team.
According to police, the breakthrough came on the evening of July 13, when the Crime Branch-II received intelligence that the suspects involved in the robbery were hiding near Kanjanu village. Acting on the tip-off, a police team launched a search operation and surrounded the area.
Police said the suspects allegedly opened fire in an attempt to escape, prompting the officers to retaliate in self-defence. During the exchange of fire, the two accused—Pawan, a resident of Badi village in Sonipat, and Satbir, a resident of Kheri Taga village—sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were overpowered by the police.
Officials said two police personnel were also hit by bullets during the encounter. However, both escaped without serious injuries as they were wearing bulletproof jackets at the time of the operation.
After receiving medical treatment, the accused were produced at the crime scene where investigators reconstructed the events related to the robbery and the subsequent encounter. Police believe the exercise will help corroborate evidence already collected during the investigation and strengthen the prosecution’s case.
Following the completion of the reconstruction and other legal formalities, the accused were produced before the competent court for further judicial proceedings.
Police officials said the investigation into the robbery case is continuing and all legal procedures are being carried out in accordance with the law.
