The Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar, on Monday organised a public awareness campaign under the ‘Stop Diarrhoea, Save Lives’ initiative at its Jagadhri office to educate citizens about preventing diarrhoea and maintaining hygiene during the monsoon season.

The campaign, conducted under the directions of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad, focused on spreading awareness about sanitation, safe drinking water and timely medical care to reduce the risk of water-borne diseases.

During the programme, Councillor Bhanu Pratap, Sanitation Inspector Sachin Kamboj, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) IEC Expert Durgesh Kumar and members of the Municipal Corporation team used awareness canopies and LED displays to inform residents about preventive healthcare measures.

Citizens were advised to consume only safe and clean drinking water, wash their hands thoroughly with soap before meals and after using the toilet, eat fresh and hygienically prepared food, and avoid open defecation by using toilets. Officials also highlighted the importance of administering Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and zinc supplements at the onset of diarrhoea and urged people to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms persist.

Mayor Suman Bahmani said the incidence of diarrhoeal diseases generally rises during the rainy season and stressed that simple hygiene practices can significantly reduce health risks. She appealed to residents to keep their homes and surroundings clean while encouraging others to adopt healthy sanitation practices.

Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad said the awareness campaign would continue across different wards of the city to ensure that the message of public health, hygiene and disease prevention reaches every section of society.

The initiative forms part of the Municipal Corporation’s broader efforts to strengthen public awareness and minimise the spread of seasonal illnesses through preventive healthcare and community participation.
