38-year-old driver allegedly came in contact with an 11 kV overhead power line while covering loaded truck; police begin probe into alleged safety lapses

A 38-year-old truck driver died after allegedly coming in contact with a high-tension electricity line while loading material at a stone crusher unit in Mohiuddinpur village under Chhachhrauli police station limits in Yamunanagar district. Police have registered a case against the stone crusher operator on allegations of negligence and initiated an investigation.The deceased has been identified as Pranam Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur district in Punjab. He had been working as a truck driver with the company for nearly one-and-a-half years and was engaged in transporting construction material. He is survived by his wife, daughter and mother. According to the complaint lodged by the deceased’s nephew, Jang Bahadur Singh, the truck had already been loaded with coarse sand when the incident occurred. Pranam Singh had climbed onto the vehicle to level the load and secure it with a tarpaulin when he allegedly came in contact with an 11 kV overhead power line passing above the truck.The electric shock caused him to fall from the vehicle, resulting in a severe head injury. Co-workers and other drivers present at the site immediately rushed him to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. In the complaint, the family alleged that the ramp used for loading trucks at the stone crusher was located directly beneath the high-tension power line, posing a serious risk to workers. They claimed that inadequate safety measures and negligence at the site led to the fatal accident. Based on the complaint, the Chhachhrauli police have registered a case against the stone crusher owner under the relevant provisions of law. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including compliance with workplace safety norms, the positioning of the loading ramp and any negligence that may have contributed to the accident.Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
