Crime Branch-1 arrests woman and her two sons; cash and silver coin recovered, police seek remaining loot and weapon

The Yamunanagar Police have arrested three accused, including a woman, for their alleged involvement in the robbery at the residence of a plywood trader in Professor Colony, where cash and valuables were looted after the house guard was held hostage at knifepoint.
Addressing reporters, Crime Branch-1 In-charge Rajkumar said the robbery took place during the intervening night of July 31 and August 1, when the accused allegedly entered the house of plywood trader Bhuvnesh Bansal in Professor Colony. According to the police, the intruders overpowered the watchman at knifepoint before escaping with ₹3 lakh in cash and a silver coin.
Following the incident, Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal (IPS) directed all crime units to launch an intensive investigation. Acting on specific intelligence, Crime Branch-1 constituted a special team comprising ASI Manish, ASI Sukhdev, Head Constables Amarjeet Singh and Kuldeep Singh, Constable Manish and Woman Constable Rajbala to trace the accused.
Rajkumar said the team arrested the alleged kingpin, Varsha Rani, wife of Shimpi Kumar and a resident of Azad Nagar, on August 3. During interrogation, she allegedly confessed to her involvement in the crime and led the police to the recovery of the stolen silver coin and ₹50,000 in cash.
Police said Varsha Rani further disclosed that she had carried out the robbery along with her two sons, Harsh and Manpreet. Acting on her disclosure, both accused were subsequently arrested.
The three accused are being produced before a local court to seek police remand. Investigators are expected to question them further to recover the remaining stolen cash, the weapon allegedly used in the robbery and the car believed to have been used during the commission of the crime.
Police said the investigation is continuing and additional recoveries are expected during custodial interrogation.
DC Preeti Reviews Second Phase of Electoral Roll Revision, Seeks Political Parties’ Support for Error-Free Voter Lists
Deputy Commissioner Preeti chairs a meeting with representatives of political parties to review the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls in Yamunanagar.
With the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 underway, District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Preeti chaired a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties to review the progress of the electoral roll revision exercise and sought their active cooperation in ensuring a transparent, inclusive and error-free voter registration process.
The meeting, held at the District Secretariat auditorium, focused on strengthening coordination between the district administration and political parties to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral rolls while eliminating inaccuracies and duplicate entries.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said the Election Commission of India (ECI) is conducting the Special Intensive Revision programme to prepare an updated and accurate electoral roll by including all eligible voters and removing ineligible entries in accordance with prescribed procedures.
She informed the representatives that during the first phase, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visited every household under their respective polling stations to distribute enumeration forms. In cases where forms were not returned, BLOs verified the status of electors through local enquiries and identified possible reasons such as migration, death, prolonged absence or duplicate registration. Such names were not included in the draft electoral rolls pending verification.
DC Preeti said the draft electoral rolls were officially published on July 31, 2026, and members of the public can submit claims and objections until August 30, 2026. All applications will be examined and disposed of by September 28, while the final electoral rolls will be published on October 3, 2026.
Calling the electoral roll the “foundation of democracy,” she said maintaining its accuracy and transparency is a shared responsibility of the administration and political parties.
She urged all recognised political parties to activate their booth-level representatives and encourage eligible citizens to verify their voter details and submit applications for inclusion, correction or deletion wherever required within the stipulated timeframe.
The Deputy Commissioner also informed that citizens can submit claims and objections through their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs), election officials or by calling the Election Commission’s voter helpline 1950.
She instructed election officials to ensure that every claim and objection received during the second phase is examined fairly, strictly in accordance with Election Commission guidelines and within the prescribed timeline, while ensuring that no eligible voter faces unnecessary inconvenience.
During the interaction, representatives of various political parties placed their suggestions and concerns before the district administration. The Deputy Commissioner assured them that all representations would be examined as per rules and reiterated that the Election Commission’s guidelines would be followed in letter and spirit.
She also appealed to political parties to carefully verify the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate) lists supplied to them through their BLO-2 representatives. If any eligible voter has been incorrectly identified in these lists, they should assist such individuals in submitting fresh claims through the concerned BLO for inclusion in the electoral roll.
“Our objective is to ensure that every eligible citizen is enrolled while maintaining a completely accurate and updated electoral roll. The administration will continue working in close coordination with all political parties to achieve this goal,” she said.
