Students of a government school in Yamunanagar joined hands with the Municipal Corporation’s Swachh Bharat Mission team to spread awareness about cleanliness through a special plog run and cleanliness campaign at Swarn Jayanti Park in Labour Colony.

The campaign was organised in Ward No. 16 under the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative on the directions of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad. Students of Government Middle School, Labour Colony, participated actively in the programme and used the plog run to combine physical activity with a message of civic responsibility.

Students Turn Cleanliness Into a Community Message

During the activity, the students moved through the park while collecting waste lying at different spots. The exercise was aimed not only at cleaning the public space but also at encouraging residents and other visitors to avoid littering and take greater responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in commonly used areas.

The collected waste was sent for scientific disposal. The activity demonstrated to the students and local residents that cleanliness drives are more effective when awareness, responsible behaviour and proper waste management are combined.

Students and Teachers Take Cleanliness Pledge

The programme also featured a cleanliness pledge in which students, teachers and other participants resolved to keep their surroundings clean, avoid spreading waste and ensure that garbage is disposed of properly. The pledge was intended to reinforce the idea that maintaining a clean neighbourhood is a continuous responsibility rather than an activity limited to special campaigns.

The participation of schoolchildren gave the campaign an important community-awareness dimension. By involving students directly in the activity, the organisers sought to encourage cleanliness habits at an early stage and enable children to communicate the message of responsible waste disposal to their families and neighbourhoods.

Swachh Bharat Mission Team Explains Waste Responsibility

Swachh Bharat Mission experts Akash Kumar and Gagan Bainiwal interacted with the students and local residents during the programme. They explained the importance of proper waste disposal and encouraged participants to keep public places clean and understand their individual responsibilities towards the environment and their neighbourhood.

The experts emphasised that a clean city begins with small but consistent actions by individuals. Avoiding littering, disposing of waste at the appropriate place and preventing public spaces from becoming dumping points can collectively make a significant difference to the cleanliness of urban areas.
