Marking the martyrdom day of legendary freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh, officials of Samagra Shiksha, Yamunanagar, paid floral tributes at the martyr’s memorial on Thursday, remembering his extraordinary sacrifice and unwavering commitment to India’s freedom struggle.
The tribute ceremony was led by District Project Officer (Samagra Shiksha) K.S. Sandhawa, who, along with department officials and staff members, offered floral wreaths at the statue of Shaheed Udham Singh and observed a solemn moment in his memory.
Addressing the gathering, Sandhawa described Shaheed Udham Singh as one of India’s greatest revolutionaries whose fearless struggle against British colonial rule continues to inspire generations.
He recalled that Udham Singh dedicated his life to avenging the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, travelling to England to punish the British official held responsible for one of the darkest chapters in India’s freedom movement.
“Without caring for his own life, Shaheed Udham Singh embraced the gallows with courage for the honour and freedom of the motherland. His unmatched patriotism, determination and sacrifice remain a guiding light for every Indian,” Sandhawa said.
He emphasised that martyrs belong to the entire nation rather than to any particular community or region.
“Martyrs are the pride of the nation. It is our collective responsibility to honour their sacrifices and draw inspiration from their lives so that we can contribute to the country’s progress and uphold the values for which they laid down their lives,” he added.
Sandhawa also appealed to the younger generation to follow the ideals of India’s freedom fighters by contributing positively to society and the nation.
He urged youth to remain away from social evils, channel their energy towards constructive goals and use their knowledge and abilities for nation-building.
“Shaheed Udham Singh’s life teaches us to stand firmly against injustice, place national interest above personal interests and remain dedicated to the unity, integrity and dignity of the country. The best tribute we can offer him is to live by these values,” he said.
The programme concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to uphold the ideals of Shaheed Udham Singh and continue working for the progress and unity of the nation.
Among those present were Subhash Chandra, Dharamvir Singh, Pawan Kamboj, Rameshwar Das, Raghav, and other officials and staff members of the department.
