Prime Minister unveils landmark rail and infrastructure initiatives from Jind; Yamunanagar hosts live telecast as local leaders hail India’s green mobility push

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered train and inaugurated as well as laid the foundation stone for nine development projects worth over ₹1,500 crore in Haryana, marking a significant milestone in the country’s push towards sustainable transportation and modern infrastructure.
The hydrogen train will operate between Jind and Sonipat, making India the fifth country in the world to introduce hydrogen-powered passenger rail services after Germany, France, Sweden and China. Designed and manufactured by Indian engineers, the 10-coach train will run across 14 stations on the Jind–Sonipat route, covering nearly 89 kilometres at a maximum speed of 75 kmph. The fare has been fixed between ₹5 and ₹25, making the eco-friendly service accessible to commuters while promoting clean energy in public transport.
Besides flagging off the hydrogen train, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several key projects, including an elevated railway track and two new medical colleges, aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure, railway connectivity and public services in Haryana. The programme was telecast live at Gupta Palace in Jagadhri, where a large gathering of public representatives, BJP leaders, party workers and local residents watched the Prime Minister’s address on a giant LED screen.
During the event, Yamunanagar MLA Ghanshyam Das Arora and former Cabinet Minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar distributed Happy Cards to five beneficiaries and presented symbolic keys to two beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Addressing the gathering, Arora said the launch of India’s first hydrogen train reflected the country’s growing technological capabilities and its commitment to environmentally sustainable transport. He added that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India is witnessing unprecedented growth in railways, roads, digital infrastructure, energy and industrial development.
Kanwar Pal Gurjar described the day as a landmark in Haryana’s development journey, saying the Centre’s investments in railways, healthcare and green energy would accelerate economic growth and improve public services across the state.
BJP District President Rajesh Sapra thanked party workers and citizens for attending the programme and said the projects inaugurated by the Prime Minister would provide fresh momentum to Haryana’s infrastructure development. Among those present were Chief Minister’s OSD Bhopal Singh Khadri, Sadhaura MLA Renu Bala, Mayor Suman Bahmani, Deputy Commissioner Preeti, Municipal Commissioner Mahavir Prasad, Safai Karamchari Commission Chairman Ishwar Singh Palaka, Zila Parishad Chairman Ramesh Chand Thaska, besides senior officials, elected representatives and BJP functionaries.
