To promote awareness about Independence Day, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and environmental conservation, the Municipal Corporation Yamunanagar-Jagadhri, in collaboration with various non-governmental organisations (NGOs), organised a series of educational and creative competitions across several schools in the city.

Held under the guidance of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad, the campaign featured essay writing, drawing, quiz and speech competitions, encouraging students to express their ideas on patriotism, cleanliness, environmental responsibility and the dream of “Housing for All.”

Students participated enthusiastically, showcasing their creativity and communication skills through essays, artwork and speeches centred on themes such as “Patriotism,” “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” and “A Permanent Home for Every Family.”

With the support of Amansh Welfare Society, essay competitions were organised at Government Middle School, Ratauli, drawing competitions at Bal Bhavan School, Kansapur, and quiz competitions at Minerva International School. In collaboration with Sneh Seva Trust, drawing competitions were held at Adarsh Vidya Mandir, Shastri Colony, while quiz contests took place at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Old Vegetable Market. Srishti Jan Kalyan Samiti also organised a drawing competition at Career Defence Group of Schools, Ratauli.

At the conclusion of the events, outstanding participants were honoured with mementoes by Chief Sanitation Inspectors Harjeet Singh and Govind Sharma, Social Media In-charge Mukta, and representatives of the participating NGOs.

Chief Sanitation Inspector Harjeet Singh said such programmes help instil patriotism, civic responsibility and environmental awareness among young citizens. He added that Independence Day is not only a celebration of India’s freedom but also an opportunity to pledge for a cleaner, greener and more responsible nation.

Among those present were Dr. Meenu Chaswal, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Neeru Chauhan, Mamta Sen, Atul Grover, Varun, Amarjeet Kaur Sandhu, Rohit, Laxmi, Raj Kumar, IEC Expert Akash Kumar, teachers and students.

Swachh Bharat Mission team demonstrates scientific wet waste management at Dayal Singh Public School

As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), the Municipal Corporation organised a composting and cleanliness awareness programme at Dayal Singh Public School, Budia Road, to educate students about sustainable waste management and environmental conservation.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad. During the session, Swachh Bharat Mission IEC Expert Durgesh Kumar explained the process of converting wet and biodegradable waste into organic compost.

Students were educated about the four-bin waste segregation system, scientific disposal of wet and dry waste, and the environmental benefits of recycling organic waste. Durgesh Kumar explained that fruit and vegetable peels, dry leaves, flowers and leftover food can easily be converted into nutrient-rich compost for plants and gardens.

A live demonstration of a compost pit was also organised, enabling students to understand the complete process of compost preparation and organic waste recycling through practical learning.

The students pledged to keep their surroundings clean, protect the environment and motivate their families and communities to adopt proper waste segregation and sustainable waste management practices.

The Municipal Corporation said such awareness programmes are being organised regularly to strengthen public participation in cleanliness drives and environmental conservation.
