Ayush Department combines plantation drive with health camps to promote environmental protection, preventive healthcare and awareness

The Ayush Department has intensified its public outreach in Kurukshetra under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, distributing and planting medicinal saplings at various health centres across the district while simultaneously organising health camps and awareness programmes.
The initiative was undertaken under the directions of the Director General, Ayush Haryana, and the guidance of District Ayurvedic Officer Dr Manju Sharma. The campaign aims to promote environmental conservation while making people aware of the importance and potential uses of medicinal plants in everyday life.

At PHC Amin, medicinal plants were distributed and planted under the leadership of Dr Monica Gupta, with Yoga Assistants Sonam and Narendra supporting the programme. Plantation activities were also conducted at Aam Murtazapur under the supervision of Dr Mahipal Singh, with Ayurvedic Pharmacist Pankaj Sharma, Yoga Assistant Shiv Kumar, Yoga Instructor Anurag Ravi and part-time staff member Ramphal contributing to the initiative.
Similar plantation activities were carried out by Dr Amrit at PHC Ismailabad, Dr Santosh at Aam Kalal Majra, Dr Meenakshi at Ayurvedic Dispensary Mathana and Dr Mahendra at Community Health Centre Ladwa.
Alongside the plantation drive, the department organised health-awareness activities at different locations.
At the Ayush Wing of LNJP Hospital, Kurukshetra, Dr Aarushi conducted an awareness camp focusing on the health needs of senior citizens. Participants were informed about physical and mental changes associated with ageing, balanced nutrition, regular daily routines, adequate sleep, mental well-being and the importance of remaining physically active.
The participants were also given guidance on preventing common difficulties such as joint pain, weakness, sleep-related problems, stress and balance issues. They were guided through simple exercises and pranayama practices aimed at supporting an active and healthy lifestyle.

The Ayush Department also organised a free health camp for Kanwariyas at Shri Dukh Bhanjan Mahadev Temple, Kurukshetra. Dr Sonakshi Dhiman, Ayurvedic Pharmacist Simmi and Yoga Assistant Nishi provided services during the camp.
District Ayurvedic Officer Dr Manju Sharma said the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign should not be viewed only as an environmental initiative. According to her, promoting medicinal plants can also contribute to greater public awareness about traditional health practices and healthy living.
She highlighted plants such as tulsi, neem and ashwagandha as important medicinal plants traditionally associated with health and wellness, while emphasising that people should seek appropriate professional advice for their medicinal use.
Dr Sharma appealed to residents to plant more trees and medicinal plants around their homes and in suitable community spaces. She said environmental protection and healthy living are closely connected and require active participation from citizens.
She added that the Ayush Department would continue organising plantation drives, health camps and awareness programmes across the district to promote environmental responsibility and public health awareness.
