Paying homage to one of India’s most revered freedom fighters, Yamunanagar Mayor Suman Bahmani on Friday offered floral tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh on the occasion of his 87th Martyrdom Day at Shaheed Udham Singh Kamboj Chowk. The solemn ceremony witnessed participation from public representatives, members of social organisations and local residents, who gathered to remember the revolutionary’s unparalleled courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the nation.
Mayor Bahmani, accompanied by Ward No. 22 Councillor Ruchi Sharma, Ruchi Kamboj, members of the Kamboj Charitable Trust, and several citizens, paid floral respects at the martyr’s statue and observed a moment of remembrance in honour of his supreme sacrifice.
Addressing the gathering, the Mayor described Shaheed Udham Singh as a timeless symbol of patriotism, bravery and national pride. She said that the sacrifices made by freedom fighters like him laid the foundation of an independent India and continue to inspire generations of Indians.
“Today we are able to live in a free nation because of the supreme sacrifices made by our brave freedom fighters. Shaheed Udham Singh’s life reflects extraordinary courage, determination and an unwavering commitment to justice. His sacrifice will continue to inspire every Indian to serve the nation with dedication,” she said.
Recalling the historical significance of Udham Singh’s sacrifice, the Mayor said he avenged the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, an act that became a defining chapter in India’s freedom struggle and restored the nation’s dignity in the face of colonial oppression.
She also paid homage to all those who lost their lives in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, stating that the courage and sacrifices of countless freedom fighters can never be forgotten.
“The contribution of the brave men and women who laid down their lives for India’s independence will forever remain etched in the nation’s history. Their ideals of courage, sacrifice and love for the motherland continue to guide us even today,” she added.
Mayor Bahmani called upon the younger generation to draw inspiration from the lives of the country’s freedom fighters and actively contribute to nation-building.
She said that patriotism is reflected not only through words but also through honesty, integrity, social responsibility and dedicated service to society.
“The greatest tribute we can pay to our martyrs is to live by their ideals. Every young citizen should work with sincerity, uphold national values and contribute positively towards building a stronger and more prosperous India,” she said.
Participants at the ceremony also pledged to follow the ideals of Shaheed Udham Singh and remain committed to serving society and the nation.
The tribute programme concluded with floral offerings and a collective resolve to preserve the legacy of India’s freedom fighters by promoting unity, patriotism and public service.
