Inner Wheel Club Organises POCSO Awareness Programme for School Students in Yamunanagar

Legal expert sensitises children on personal safety, child rights and reporting mechanisms under the POCSO Act

The Inner Wheel Club of Jagadhri-Yamunanagar organised an awareness programme on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at D.N. School, Model Town, with the aim of educating students about child safety, legal protection and their rights.The session was conducted by Ranjan Sharma, Legal-cum-Probation Officer, District Child Protection Unit, Yamunanagar, who explained the key provisions of the POCSO Act and sensitised students on recognising inappropriate behaviour, safeguarding themselves and seeking timely assistance. Addressing the students, Sharma encouraged children to immediately report any form of abuse or inappropriate conduct to their parents, teachers or the concerned authorities without fear or hesitation. He also highlighted the importance of awareness, early reporting and legal protection in ensuring the safety and well-being of children. During the interactive programme, Inner Wheel Club President Ragini Vinayak, senior member Shashi Gupta, Rani Bhatthi and other club members urged students to remain vigilant about their personal safety and to speak up against any form of misconduct. As a mark of appreciation, the club honoured the keynote speaker, Ranjan Sharma, by presenting him with a sapling. Biscuits were also distributed among the students at the conclusion of the programme. The organisers said the initiative aimed to strengthen awareness about child rights, personal safety and the provisions of the POCSO Act while encouraging children to contribute towards building a safe, informed and responsible society.
