The Government of India has launched the Prime Minister’s Road Accident Victims Hospitalisation and Assurance Treatment (PM-RAHAT) Scheme, providing cashless medical treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh for road accident victims across the country.

According to a police spokesperson, the scheme covers all persons injured in road accidents involving motor vehicles on any category of road in India, irrespective of their nationality, income or insurance status.

Under the initiative, eligible victims can receive cashless treatment for up to seven days from the date of the accident at empanelled hospitals. The scheme is designed to ensure that financial constraints do not delay emergency medical care during the golden hour, when timely treatment is often crucial to saving lives.

Police have advised the public to immediately inform the nearest police station or dial emergency services in the event of a road accident so that the injured person can be shifted without delay to a designated hospital under the PM-RAHAT scheme.

The government has also urged motorists to follow traffic rules, wear helmets and seat belts, drive responsibly and assist accident victims in obtaining prompt medical care, emphasising that timely intervention can save lives.
