PEN OF DEMOCRACY NEWS DESK YAMUNANAGAR:
A 60-year-old financier, Harbhajan Singh, was allegedly shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants shortly after he stepped out of a gym in Yamunanagar’s Model Town area on Thursday morning. The attackers reportedly opened fire on him and fled the scene on a motorcycle, leaving the area before police teams could reach the spot.
Harbhajan Singh, a resident of Prem Nagar, was taken to a hospital in a critical condition after the shooting. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival, according to the information available in connection with the incident. The killing has triggered a police investigation, with multiple teams working to establish the identity of the attackers and determine the motive behind the shooting.
According to the preliminary information, Harbhajan Singh regularly visited a gym in Model Town in the morning for exercise. On Thursday morning, he reportedly came out of the gym and began walking towards his car. It was during this time that two young men travelling on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire at him.
Police said Harbhajan Singh attempted to save himself by running towards his car after the firing began. During the incident, one of the bullets reportedly struck the bonnet of his car. The attackers allegedly followed him towards the vehicle and fired again when they reached near the car.
Harbhajan Singh sustained serious bullet injuries and collapsed near the vehicle. The sound of gunfire alerted people in the surrounding area, who rushed towards the scene. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for emergency medical treatment, but doctors could not save him.
The two alleged attackers fled the spot on their motorcycle immediately after the shooting. Their escape has become a key focus of the police investigation, with officers examining available CCTV footage and other evidence to establish the route taken by the suspects and identify them.
Soon after the incident was reported, Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, along with several police teams, reached the crime scene. Police and forensic personnel examined the area and collected evidence that could assist investigators in reconstructing the sequence of events.
Investigators are also examining CCTV recordings from cameras installed in and around the Model Town area. The footage is expected to be important in identifying the motorcycle-borne suspects and determining their movements before and after the shooting.
Police officials are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the killing. The motive behind the attack has not yet been established, and investigators are examining all relevant aspects of the case. Officials are also working to determine whether the victim had any previous dispute, threat or other connection that could help explain the targeted attack.
The fact that the shooting allegedly took place shortly after Harbhajan Singh left the gym is also being examined by investigators. Police are likely to study the sequence of his movements, the presence of the attackers in the area and the manner in which the shooting was carried out as part of the investigation.
Harbhajan Singh’s family has been informed about the incident. According to family members, he had two sons. His elder son lives abroad, while his younger son, Dilbag Singh, worked with him in the finance business in Yamunanagar.
The family’s account regarding his regular morning routine is also part of the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police are expected to gather further information from family members and other persons acquainted with the deceased as they attempt to establish whether there was any specific reason for the attack.
The recovery and examination of physical evidence from the crime scene will also form an important part of the investigation. Forensic personnel have collected evidence from the location, including material that may help investigators establish the direction and sequence of firing.
Police are also examining the victim’s vehicle, particularly the damage caused to its bonnet, as part of the investigation. The bullet impact reportedly found on the vehicle could provide additional evidence about the position of the victim and the attackers during the shooting.
The investigation is being conducted from multiple angles, with police teams working simultaneously on evidence collection, CCTV analysis and identification of the suspects. Officers are also attempting to establish the escape route used by the two motorcycle-borne attackers.
The incident has raised concern in the Model Town area, where the shooting took place during the morning hours. The alleged attack occurred in a public area shortly after the victim had left the gym, and the attackers were able to flee the scene on a motorcycle.
Police officials said efforts are underway to arrest the suspects. Authorities are examining all available leads and have indicated that every relevant aspect connected with the killing will be investigated.
The identity of the attackers and the motive behind the murder remain key unanswered questions. Police are expected to make further progress once CCTV footage and other evidence are analysed and statements from witnesses and people present in the vicinity are recorded.
The case has put investigators under pressure to identify the assailants and establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. Multiple police teams have been deployed for the investigation, while forensic evidence and surveillance footage are being examined to develop leads.
At present, police have not publicly established the motive for the killing. The investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as officers verify the available evidence and trace the suspects.
The killing of Harbhajan Singh has therefore become a major criminal investigation in Yamunanagar, with the police focusing on three immediate priorities: identifying the two alleged attackers, determining the motive and tracing the motorcycle used in the escape.
Senior police officials have assured that all relevant aspects of the case are being examined and efforts to apprehend those responsible are continuing. The investigation will proceed on the basis of evidence collected from the crime scene, CCTV recordings and information gathered from witnesses and the victim’s family.
