DC Preeti Reviews Pollution Control, Water Management and Sewerage Works, Sets Strict Timelines
Deputy Commissioner Preeti reviewed pollution control, water management, sewerage and environmental protection measures during a district-level meeting at the District Secretariat auditorium, directing officials to work within clearly defined timelines and ensure that ongoing projects do not face unnecessary delays.
The meeting was attended by officials from several departments, including the Pollution Control Board, Irrigation Department, Public Health Engineering Department, Panchayati Raj, District Council, Municipal Corporation and Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran. The Deputy Commissioner stressed that environmental protection and public utility works require regular monitoring, interdepartmental coordination and timely execution.
During the review, the administration focused on Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) testing, sewage treatment plants, grey-water management, plastic waste entering water channels, sewer cleaning and household sewer connections under AMRUT-2.0. Officials were instructed to maintain regular checks and submit progress reports so that shortcomings could be identified and addressed without delay.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officials to ensure regular BOD testing and maintain a clear schedule for the work. She emphasized that technical assessments should not remain pending and that departments must act within prescribed deadlines. Under-construction sewage treatment plants were also reviewed, with directions to complete the projects at the earliest so that sewage treatment capacity can be strengthened.
The administration also discussed the need for effective management of grey water. Officials were asked to hold a dedicated meeting on the issue and work towards a sustainable solution rather than allowing untreated or poorly managed wastewater to create environmental and public-health concerns.
For rural areas, the Panchayat Department and District Council were asked to coordinate more closely on water and sanitation-related issues. The Deputy Commissioner stressed that environmental management should extend beyond urban areas and that local-level mechanisms need to be strengthened for effective implementation.
Measures to Prevent Plastic Waste and Improve Sewerage »
The Irrigation Department was directed to take steps to prevent plastic waste carried by water from accumulating at vulnerable points. The meeting discussed the installation of brick chambers at suitable locations to intercept plastic waste and facilitate its regular removal. Officials were asked to identify necessary points and ensure that the system is maintained properly.
The Public Health Engineering Department and Municipal Corporation were instructed to use machines for cleaning sewer manholes. The emphasis was on improving the efficiency and safety of sewer maintenance while reducing the possibility of blockages and sanitation-related problems.
The administration also reviewed AMRUT-2.0 sewer connections and directed the concerned agencies to complete connections within the prescribed timeline. Regular monitoring was ordered to ensure that the progress of works remains visible and that departments do not allow avoidable delays to continue.
Interdepartmental Coordination Made a Priority »
Preeti emphasized that pollution control, sewerage management and water conservation are interconnected responsibilities and cannot be handled effectively through isolated departmental action. She called for regular coordination among departments, timely sharing of information and monitoring of works at the field level.
Officials were directed to submit progress reports regularly and highlight issues requiring intervention. The objective, according to the administration, is to ensure that projects related to sanitation, sewage treatment, water management and environmental protection move forward according to schedule.
The meeting was attended by CEO District Council Brahm Prakash, City Magistrate Piyush Gupta, Regional Officer of the Pollution Control Board Pradeep Singh, Executive Engineer Irrigation Vijay Garg, Executive Engineers of Public Health Saurabh Ahlawat and Dinesh Gaba, Executive Engineer Panchayati Raj Lav Kumar, and Municipal Corporation Chief Sanitation Inspectors Vinod Beniwal and Amit Kumar. HSVP Junior Engineers Praduman and Rohit and other officials were also present.
The review underlined the administration’s focus on environmental protection, clean water systems and efficient sewerage management. Departments have been asked to maintain continuous monitoring and ensure that work on the ground matches the timelines fixed during the review.
