A tree plantation campaign was organised on Saturday in Sanwala village under Pipli Block as part of the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural), reinforcing the government’s focus on environmental conservation, green development and community participation in rural areas.
The plantation drive was led by District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Project Officer Manjeet Kaur, who participated as the chief guest and planted saplings alongside local residents and officials. Addressing the gathering, she said trees are an invaluable natural resource and play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance.
She stressed that in the face of growing pollution and climate change, every citizen should not only plant trees but also take responsibility for their long-term care and protection.
Block Development and Panchayat Officer Rubal said plantation campaigns achieve their true purpose only when every sapling is nurtured until it grows into a healthy tree. He appealed to villagers to actively participate in expanding green cover by planting more trees and ensuring their survival.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from Gram Panchayat representatives, government officials and local residents.
Sanwala Sarpanch Kamal Singh, Gram Secretary Jaspal, Dharambir, Sandeep, Amit, Rajaram, Surekha, Naveen, Jogaram, Devi Rani, Ajay Deshwal and several other village secretaries joined the plantation drive and pledged to work collectively for a cleaner and greener environment.
District Council Chief Executive Officer Virendra Chaudhary said environmental conservation is one of the most pressing priorities of the present time, and tree plantation remains one of the most effective ways to address ecological challenges.
He noted that plantation campaigns conducted under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) are not only increasing green cover but are also fostering a sense of environmental responsibility and public participation among rural communities.
The campaign concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to protect the planted saplings and contribute towards building a sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
