Yamunanagar Police Tighten Security for Kanwar Yatra, Urge Motorists to Prioritise Pilgrims’ Safety

With the number of Kanwar pilgrims returning from Haridwar steadily increasing during the holy month of Shravan, the Yamunanagar Police have intensified security and traffic management measures to ensure the smooth, safe and peaceful conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamaldeep Goyal, through the district police spokesperson, appealed to residents and motorists to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by exercising patience, following traffic regulations and giving priority to Kanwariyas travelling along designated routes.
The SP said the district police have remained on high alert since the commencement of the Kanwar Yatra on July 30, with elaborate security arrangements put in place across the district.
To facilitate the uninterrupted movement of pilgrims, the police have earmarked dedicated routes for Kanwariyas, enabling them to travel safely to their destinations without unnecessary disruption. Security has also been strengthened along major pilgrimage routes and at various Kanwar camps established across the district.
In addition to regular police personnel, sufficient deployment of traffic police has been made to regulate vehicular movement, prevent congestion and maintain law and order throughout the pilgrimage period.
SP Goyal said all Station House Officers (SHOs) and traffic officials have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance at busy intersections, crowded markets and sensitive locations. Officers on duty have also been directed to perform their responsibilities with utmost sincerity and alertness to prevent traffic bottlenecks and ensure that devotees face no inconvenience during their journey.
Appealing directly to motorists, the SP advised drivers to maintain controlled speeds, particularly on roads being used by Kanwar pilgrims. He requested the public to avoid travelling on pilgrimage routes unless absolutely necessary and to give way whenever Kanwariya groups are passing.
“Drivers should reduce speed near intersections, turns and diversions and, if required, stop their vehicles briefly to allow pilgrims to cross safely. A little patience can prevent accidents and ensure the safe passage of devotees,” he said.
Describing the Kanwar Yatra as one of the country’s largest religious pilgrimages, SP Goyal said it represents the faith and devotion of millions of people and requires the active cooperation of every citizen.
“The district police are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all pilgrims. However, public cooperation is equally important. Responsible driving, adherence to traffic rules and respect for police advisories will help ensure the successful completion of the pilgrimage,” he added.
The Superintendent of Police also urged citizens to strictly follow all traffic instructions issued by the district administration and police so that both the Kanwar Yatra and normal traffic movement can continue smoothly without inconvenience to commuters or devotees.
