Yamunanagar Police review security and traffic arrangements ahead of the annual Kanwar Yatra.

The Yamunanagar Police have intensified security preparations for the annual Kanwar Yatra, with a comprehensive deployment plan aimed at ensuring the peaceful, safe and hassle-free movement of lakhs of devotees expected to pass through the district between July 30 and August 11.
Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal said the district police are on high alert as Yamunanagar serves as a major transit route for Kanwariyas returning from Haridwar and Neelkanth in Uttarakhand to destinations across Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
To oversee security arrangements, Additional Superintendent of Police Ashish Chaudhary has been appointed the overall in-charge, while DSP Radaur Sunil Kumar will serve as the nodal officer. All police officers and station house officers have been directed to complete security preparations before the pilgrimage gains momentum.
The SP announced that all police leave has been suspended for the duration of the Kanwar Yatra to ensure adequate manpower. Round-the-clock police patrolling will be maintained along pilgrimage routes, major intersections and Kanwar camps.
For the safety of pilgrims, dedicated Kanwar lanes will be created using sandbags and ropes, allowing devotees to travel without interference from regular traffic. Barricades will also be installed at key junctions and sensitive locations.
Police have mapped separate routes for pilgrims travelling towards different regions. Kanwariyas heading to Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind and Hisar will proceed via the National Highway through Kala Naur Border, Aurangabad Bridge, Damla and Radaur, while those travelling towards Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Ambala will use the Kail Bypass route. Pilgrims bound for Jagadhri, Chhachhrauli and Pratap Nagar will travel through the Kala Naur Police Post, railway underpass and Lapra village.
SP Goyal said special attention will be paid to preventing public nuisance, drug abuse and traffic disruptions during the pilgrimage. Police personnel have been instructed to take strict action against anyone creating disturbances under the influence of intoxicants or obstructing traffic.
As an additional safety measure, warning signboards and speed limit indicators will be installed near rivers, canals and highways. Devotees have been advised not to bathe in rivers or canals to avoid accidents.
The district administration will also deploy ambulances and fire tenders at strategic locations to respond promptly to any emergency.
Police further clarified that carrying weapons, sharp objects or spears during the pilgrimage is strictly prohibited. Pilgrims have been advised to carry valid identification documents and comply with the Supreme Court’s guidelines on noise pollution.
In accordance with existing regulations, meat shops located along the Kanwar routes will remain closed during the pilgrimage.
Permission Mandatory for Kanwar Camps
The police have directed all religious and social organisations intending to set up Kanwar camps to obtain prior administrative approval.
Camp organisers have been instructed to:
Set up camps at least 100 feet away from the roadside.
Install a public address system and adequate CCTV surveillance.
Ensure parking facilities away from the highway with proper barricading.
Provide separate toilets for men and women.
Strictly follow all safety and administrative guidelines issued by the district authorities.
SP Kamaldeep Goyal appealed to devotees and organisers to cooperate with the police in maintaining peace, law and order throughout the pilgrimage.
