Decorative lighting, beautification drive and upgraded civic infrastructure set the stage for Haryana’s state-level ‘War Against Drugs’ marathon on July 26

Yamunanagar and Jagadhri have undergone an extensive beautification drive as the twin cities prepare to welcome Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for the state-level ‘Nashe Se Jung – Yamunanagar Ke Sang’ Anti-Drug Marathon scheduled for July 26. The Municipal Corporation has completed the final phase of preparations, transforming major roads and public spaces into vibrant, illuminated corridors ahead of the event.
Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad said the Chief Minister is expected to arrive in Jagadhri on the evening of July 25, where he will receive a grand civic welcome upon entering the Municipal Corporation limits.
As part of a special cleanliness and beautification campaign, the Corporation has upgraded key routes, including Ambala Road, Jagadhri–Paonta Sahib Road, Railway Road, Jagadhri–Yamunanagar Road, Govindpuri Road and Jagadhri Workshop Road. Road dividers have been freshly painted, roadside walls adorned with murals, trees trimmed and painted, encroachments and debris removed, and damaged roads repaired. Zebra crossings and other road safety markings have also been restored.

The city’s major intersections and the entire marathon route have been illuminated with decorative acrylic lighting, tricolour-themed installations and ornamental decorations. Welcome hoardings, marathon signboards and civic displays have also been installed across the city to mark the Chief Minister’s visit.
Mayor Suman Bahmani said Municipal Corporation teams have been working round the clock to ensure the city presents its best appearance for the event. She appealed to residents to support the cleanliness campaign by keeping their surroundings clean and avoiding littering.
The marathon will be flagged off by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at 5:15 am on July 26 from Matka Chowk, Jagadhri. The Chief Minister is also expected to participate in the run before felicitating the top ten finishers in the 10-kilometre race during the concluding ceremony.
Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad said elaborate arrangements have been made for participants throughout the marathon route. Drinking water stations, refreshment counters, mobile toilets, ambulances, medical teams and multiple assistance booths will be available to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for runners.
He said the marathon is more than a sporting event and represents a statewide public awareness campaign against drug abuse. The initiative aims to inspire young people to embrace a healthy lifestyle while encouraging collective efforts towards building a drug-free society.
