Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation is conducting cleanliness awareness activities across various wards under its “Swachh Diwali, Shubh Diwali” campaign, encouraging residents to celebrate the festival in an environmentally responsible manner.

As part of the initiative, the corporation’s Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) team organised a “Swachhta Ki Pathshala” programme at Government Secondary School in Ward 16. Students were sensitised to the importance of cleanliness and encouraged to adopt environment-friendly practices during Diwali.

During the programme, students were informed about source segregation of waste at home, avoiding single-use plastic and ensuring that garbage is not thrown on roads or in public places. They were also briefed on the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, with emphasis on minimising unnecessary waste and making better use of reusable materials.

Swachh Bharat Mission expert Akash Kumar urged students to minimise the use of firecrackers, light earthen lamps and maintain cleanliness in their surroundings during the festival. He said cleanliness begins with individual responsibility and that children can play an important role in making the city cleaner and more beautiful by adopting good habits and spreading awareness among family members and people around them.

The programme concluded with students taking a pledge to celebrate a clean and safe Diwali. They also raised the message, “We will not litter, we will not use plastic, and we will celebrate a clean Diwali,” expressing their commitment to keeping their surroundings clean.

The municipal corporation’s awareness drive seeks to promote responsible festive practices and encourage students to become active participants in the city’s cleanliness efforts.
