Pankaj Nain Directs Police to Strengthen Festival Security Across Four Districts
Market checks, hotel verification and traffic enforcement intensified ahead of festivals and VIP programmes

Police Commissioner Panchkula and Inspector General of Police, Ambala Range, IPS Pankaj Nain, chaired a video-conference review meeting on Wednesday with police officers from Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra to assess security arrangements during the festive season and ahead of important programmes and VIP visits.
The meeting was attended by SPs and DCPs, DSPs and ACPs, station house officers, police post in-charges, crime unit heads and officials from key branches. Directions were issued to strengthen public safety, maintain law and order and ensure effective field-level policing.
Market Coordination and Visible Police Presence
Nain directed station house officers to work actively in the field and establish direct coordination with market associations, including sweet shop owners, authorised firecracker sellers, gift shop operators and jewellers. Police visibility in busy markets is to be increased so traders and shoppers feel secure and officers can respond quickly to concerns.
Action Against Illegal Firecrackers and Adulterated Sweets
Police teams were instructed to maintain regular patrols and take prompt legal action against illegal sale or storage of firecrackers and adulteration of sweets. The meeting stressed that public health and safety must not be compromised during festivals and that field teams should remain vigilant against unlawful activities.
Hotel, Inn and PG Verification
Regular checks have been directed at hotels, inns and paying guest accommodations. Police teams will check identity documents and ensure that required verification procedures are followed for people staying at these premises. Checking around schools and colleges is also to be intensified as part of the wider security plan.
Strict Enforcement Against Traffic Violations
With festive crowds expected in markets, police have been directed to keep a close watch on theft and snatching. Enforcement will target vehicles without number plates, prohibited black films, triple riding, stunt riding and people creating disturbances on roads. The use of Bullet motorcycles to produce firecracker-like sounds was also highlighted for action under applicable law.
Officials were told to make effective use of available personnel and maintain a visible presence in busy areas. The directions aim to discourage reckless behaviour, improve road safety and help prevent crime.
Night Patrols and Officer Safety
Police personnel assigned to night patrols and security duties must wear reflective jackets and carry necessary safety equipment. The review emphasised visible deployment and daily assessment of arrangements to identify gaps and ensure that field instructions are implemented.
Security for President’s Visit and Run for Unity
The meeting reviewed arrangements for President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled visit to Kurukshetra on November 1. Officers were directed to carefully plan VIP security, traffic management and arrangements at programme locations.
Security for the Run for Unity in Panchkula on October 31, marking National Unity Day, was also discussed. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is scheduled to flag off the event. Police were instructed to coordinate traffic and security arrangements for both programmes.
Senior Officers Attend Review
Participants included Panchkula DCP IPS Aditi Singh, DCP Crime and Traffic IPS Amarinder Singh, Kurukshetra SP IPS Chander Mohan, Yamunanagar SP IPS Kamaldeep Goel and Ambala SP IPS Ajit Singh Shekhawat, along with DSPs and ACPs, station house officers, police post in-charges, crime unit heads and other officials from the four districts.
