The Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation has distributed personal protective equipment (PPE) kits to waste pickers as part of its Seva Sankalp campaign and the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative, with a focus on improving safety during sanitation work.
The kits were distributed at the municipal corporation’s store, where officials urged waste pickers to wear protective equipment regularly while on duty and follow prescribed safety rules. The initiative aims to raise awareness about occupational risks and encourage safer working practices among those involved in waste collection and sanitation activities.
Chief Sanitary Inspector Govind Sharma and councillor representative Pawan Kumar Yadav distributed the kits to the workers. They emphasised that protecting the health and safety of sanitation personnel is essential, as handling waste can expose workers to potential hazards.
Workers Urged to Follow Daily Safety Practices

Focus on Health and a Safer Working Environment
The municipal corporation said its objective is to promote a safer working environment for sanitation personnel and increase awareness of workplace safety requirements. Waste pickers play an important role in waste collection and cleanliness, making their health and protection important to the overall sanitation system.
The distribution of PPE kits is intended to encourage workers to adopt safety measures as part of their regular routine. Officials urged them to use the equipment properly and remain mindful of the risks that may arise while handling waste.
The initiative also highlights the need to combine cleanliness efforts with the protection of the people who carry them out. Maintaining a clean city depends not only on sanitation services but also on ensuring that workers have access to appropriate protective equipment and understand how to use it.
