Students were urged to stay away from drugs, participate in sports and positive activities, and work towards a successful future during an anti-drug awareness programme organised by Shivaji Press Club Yamunanagar Registered at Shri Krishna Public School in Khajuri village, in the Jathlana area, on Friday. Radaur DSP Sunil Kumar attended as the chief guest, while school chairman Mahipal Singh Rana and Anti-Narcotics Cell in-charge Anil Rana were present as special guests.

A team from the district police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell and Rinku Singh, representing Civil Hospital Yamunanagar, spoke to students about the harmful effects of substance use, ways to avoid addiction and the importance of seeking appropriate support to overcome dependency. The programme focused on helping young people understand the risks associated with drugs and encouraging them to make informed, healthy choices.

Drug Use Harms Health, Family and Future: DSP

Addressing the students, DSP Sunil Kumar said substance abuse can seriously affect an individual’s health, family life and future prospects. He said staying away from drugs and helping others understand their harmful consequences was a shared responsibility. Young people, he stressed, should concentrate on education, sports and constructive activities instead of allowing substance use to derail their ambitions.

Kumar said the district police was conducting awareness programmes in schools as part of its efforts to prevent drug abuse. Under the campaign ‘War Against Drugs, With Yamunanagar Police’, the police is taking action against people involved in the buying and selling of narcotics. Alongside enforcement, efforts are also being made to help people struggling with addiction move towards recovery.

He said the district police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell was working actively against the drug menace. Students were encouraged to remain alert to the dangers of substance use, make responsible choices and share awareness with friends and family. Participation in sports and other positive pursuits, he said, can help young people focus their energy on healthy goals and personal development.

Police Team Reaches Villages to Spread Awareness

Sub-Inspector Satish Kumar of the Anti-Narcotics Cell said the district police team was reaching villages to conduct awareness campaigns against drugs. Special attention was being given to villages from which complaints related to drug sales or consumption had been received, he said.

Appealing to students, Satish Kumar said they should not allow drugs to become part of their lives under any circumstances. Children and young people represent the country’s future, he said, and should set clear goals while focusing on education, sports and good values. Awareness at school level, he added, can help students recognise risks and understand the importance of seeking help when someone is affected by addiction.

Rinku Singh, who attended on behalf of Civil Hospital Yamunanagar, also explained the harmful effects of substance use. He highlighted the importance of proper guidance and medical assistance for people seeking to overcome addiction. The hospital team, he said, was contributing to efforts aimed at supporting de-addiction and encouraging people to seek help when required.

Club Has Organised Eight Social Initiatives

Shivaji Press Club Yamunanagar Registered president Ravinder Chauhan said the club had been actively involved in public-interest and community service activities. It has organised eight programmes so far, including blood donation camps, the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ plantation drive, the anti-drug awareness campaign ‘War Against Drugs, With Yamunanagar Police’, and a cleanliness initiative under the ‘Seva Sankalp’ campaign.

Chauhan said the club was carrying out awareness work against drugs under the guidance of District Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. The objective is to encourage young people and students to stay away from substance abuse and to promote a healthier, better-informed society. He appealed to students not only to avoid drugs themselves but also to help spread awareness among people around them.

At the programme, the club honoured chief guest DSP Sunil Kumar and the other guests by presenting them with traditional stoles and mementoes. The recognition formed part of the event, which brought together police representatives, school leadership, health personnel, club members and other community representatives around the shared objective of preventing drug abuse.

Those present included Sanjeev Chauhan, president of the Shivaji Press Club’s Jagadhri subdivision; Ramkishan Kashyap, Ravish Chauhan, Rajendra Kumar, Savita, Ravikant, Preeti Saini, Dinesh Kumar, Shiv Chunni, Sanjeev Vij, Nitin Singla, Aditya Sharma, Antim Prajapati and Rudra Pratap Singh, along with other dignitaries.

The programme underlined the importance of cooperation between educational institutions, the police, health services and community organisations in addressing substance abuse. By discussing prevention, awareness and access to medical support, the organisers encouraged students to make healthy choices and contribute to a drug-free environment in their schools, families and villages.
