The Municipal Corporation organised a yoga camp at the yoga hall in Nehru Park, Yamunanagar, under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, encouraging participants to make yoga and breathing exercises a regular part of their daily routine.

The camp was organised under the directions of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad. Staff members and students from the Yoga Department of DAV Girls College, along with Municipal Corporation employees, took part in the session.

Participants Practise Yoga and Breathing Exercises

Yoga experts guided participants through asanas including Surya Namaskar, Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Vajrasana, Bhujangasana, Pawanmuktasana and Shavasana. They also demonstrated Anulom-Vilom, Kapalbhati and deep breathing, explaining the importance of correct technique.

Dr Smriti Sharma, Gurmeet Kaur and Divya from the Yoga Department of DAV Girls College, along with Sitaram Kesari of Kesari Physiotherapy Yoga Centre, led the practical sessions. Participants received guidance on posture, breath control and the value of consistency in yoga practice.

The instructors explained that regular yoga can help people maintain physical activity, improve flexibility and support better breathing control. They also highlighted the role of breathing exercises and relaxation practices in promoting mental calmness and managing everyday stress.

Yoga Should Become Part of Daily Life

Municipal Corporation Social Media Cell In-charge Mukta spoke about the relevance of yoga in modern life. She observed that busy schedules, prolonged sitting and work-related stress often leave people with little time to focus on their health.

She encouraged participants not to restrict yoga to organised camps but to practise it regularly at home. She also urged them to motivate family members and people in their communities to adopt healthier routines.

“Yoga Is More Than Physical Exercise,” Says Dr Smriti

Dr Smriti Sharma said yoga was not merely a form of physical exercise but also a way to develop balance between the body and mind. Regular practice can help improve flexibility, strengthen muscles and maintain physical activity, while also supporting stress management.

She explained that pranayama focuses on regulating breathing and can help practitioners feel calmer. Surya Namaskar, she added, is a useful sequence of movements that engages different parts of the body. She emphasised that students, women and working professionals should make time for yoga in their daily schedules.

NEWS NOTE
The camp concluded with a message that yoga should be treated as a continuing lifestyle practice rather than an activity limited to special events. The initiative encouraged residents and civic employees to pay greater attention to physical and mental well-being.
