Yamunanagar Police Issues Cyber Safety Advisory to Protect Children Online

Parents urged to monitor children’s digital activities and protect them from online gaming scams, fake identities, cyberbullying and suspicious links
YAMUNANAGAR | PEN OF DEMOCRACY NEWS DESK

With internet access, smartphones and digital technology becoming an increasingly important part of everyday life, Yamunanagar Police has issued a special cyber safety advisory aimed at protecting children from online threats. The police have urged parents to remain alert and guide children about safe and responsible use of the internet.

Police officials noted that completely keeping children away from smartphones, tablets and laptops is not practical in the present digital environment. Online education, mobile gaming and social media have become part of children’s daily lives, making awareness and supervision an important part of digital safety.

Cybercriminals Increasingly Target Children»

Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal said cybercriminals are increasingly attempting to target children, particularly those who spend significant time playing mobile games or using social media platforms.

According to the police advisory, fraudsters may approach children with attractive offers such as free game rewards, in-game coins and other promotional benefits. Such offers can be used to establish contact and gradually obtain personal information or induce children to click on unsafe links.

Another concern is the use of fake identities on social media. A person may create a false profile, establish contact with a child and gradually attempt to obtain private information.

IMPORTANT DIGITAL SAFETY REMINDER
Children should never share their home address, school name, phone number, passwords, family details or banking-related information with unknown persons online.

Police said children may sometimes share sensitive family information without understanding its consequences. Such information can potentially be misused by cybercriminals in fraud or other forms of online exploitation.

Risks Extend Beyond Financial Fraud»

The police advisory also draws attention to the wider effects of uncontrolled internet use. Exposure to cyberbullying, violent material or inappropriate online content may affect children’s behaviour and emotional well-being.

Police have pointed to possible signs such as increased irritability, aggression and stress. Parents have therefore been advised to pay attention not only to how much time children spend online but also to the type of content they access and the people with whom they interact.

Open Communication with Children is Essential»

SP Kamaldeep Goyal has advised parents to maintain open communication with their children and explain online risks in simple language. Children should be encouraged to speak to their parents if they encounter something suspicious or uncomfortable online.

Parents should clearly explain that private information must not be shared with strangers. Children should also be taught not to click on suspicious links, emails, messages or unfamiliar websites.

Parents Advised to Monitor Online Activity»

The police have also advised parents to periodically review children’s online activities. This may include checking browsing history, downloaded applications and the websites being accessed, while maintaining an age-appropriate and responsible approach to supervision.

Parental-control features available on many devices and online platforms can also be used to create a safer digital environment for children. Parents can use such tools to manage internet access and reduce exposure to unsuitable content.

Police Appeal for Responsible Digital Parenting»

Yamunanagar Police has appealed to parents to remain vigilant and make children aware of basic cyber safety practices. The objective is not to completely restrict children from using technology but to help them use digital platforms safely and positively.

As children increasingly depend on digital devices for education, entertainment and communication, awareness at home can play an important role in preventing avoidable cyber incidents. Parents, teachers and children all have a role in building safer digital habits.
