Swachhata Hi Seva 2026: Mashal March promotes civic responsibility in Yamunanagar

The Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation organised a torch march to encourage residents to keep public places clean, dispose of waste responsibly and make cleanliness a daily civic habit.

As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, the mashal march began at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk and passed through Railway Road and Pyara Chowk before concluding at Nehru Park.

Students and Civic Teams Join Awareness Drive

The march was organised on the directions of Mayor Suman Bahmani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad. Chief Sanitation Inspector Govind Sharma, Swachh Bharat Mission adviser Lokesh Sen, Sanitation Inspector Satbir Singh, CTL Satish Kumar, Sneha Sewa Trust founder Mamta Sen, municipal social media in-charge Mukta and Swachh Bharat Mission expert Akash Kumar were among those who participated along with civic staff.

Students from MLN Senior Secondary School and cadets of the Azad Hind Fauj also joined the march. Carrying torches, participants moved through the city to spread messages on cleanliness and public participation.

During the programme, citizens were encouraged not to litter public spaces, ensure proper disposal of waste and maintain cleanliness in their surroundings. The campaign highlighted the role of community participation in keeping the city clean and attractive.

Public Participation Seen as Essential

Chief Sanitation Inspector Govind Sharma said the purpose of the mashal march was to strengthen public awareness and responsibility towards cleanliness and encourage residents to make it part of everyday life.

He said the efforts of sanitation workers alone cannot ensure a consistently clean and beautiful city. Active participation by every citizen is necessary to support municipal cleanliness efforts and sustain the impact of awareness campaigns.
