Seva Sankalp Abhiyan begins in Jagadhri with special cleanliness drive

Mayor Suman Bahmani, Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad and former minister Kanwar Pal led the cleanliness drive as the month-long civic campaign got underway in Jagadhri.
The Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation on Thursday launched a month-long Seva Sankalp campaign on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, beginning with a special cleanliness drive at the Old Grain Market in Ward No. 2, Jagadhri.
Mayor Suman Bahmani, Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad and former minister Kanwar Pal led the opening activity by taking part in the cleaning operation themselves. They were joined by Market Committee Jagadhri chairman Vipul Garg, councillors Arun Kumar and Priyank Sharma, chief sanitation inspectors Harjit Singh and Vinod Benewal, sanitation workers and local residents.
The drive covered the grain market premises and adjoining areas. Three chief sanitation inspectors, four sanitation inspectors, supervisors, darogas and about 60 sanitation workers participated in the operation. Municipal teams cleared around four tonnes of waste from the market and transported it by tractor-trolleys to the waste-disposal plant at Kail.
During the campaign, public representatives and municipal officials also urged residents to avoid dumping waste in public places and to keep their surroundings clean. The emphasis was on making cleanliness a daily civic responsibility rather than limiting it to special campaigns.
Public Participation at the Centre of Cleanliness Campaign
Mayor Suman Bahmani said the Seva Sankalp campaign was not merely an event but a commitment to fulfilling responsibility towards society. She said public participation was essential for creating a clean and attractive city and noted that the Municipal Corporation was working continuously to improve sanitation services.
Bahmani also appealed to citizens to understand their individual responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in their neighbourhoods. She stressed that municipal efforts could achieve lasting results only with the active cooperation of residents.
Waste Segregation and Daily Cleanliness Stressed
Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Prasad said cleanliness should become part of everyday life rather than remain limited to a campaign period. He appealed to citizens to segregate wet and dry waste, dispose of garbage only at designated points and cooperate with the municipal sanitation system.
Call for Wider Community Participation
Former minister Kanwar Pal said a cleanliness campaign could succeed only when people from every section of society participated. He called upon residents to contribute to keeping the city clean and support civic authorities in maintaining public spaces.
The Municipal Corporation said the Seva Sankalp campaign would continue for a month, with cleanliness and public-awareness activities aimed at encouraging sustained community participation. The opening drive at the Old Grain Market also highlighted the scale of waste that can accumulate in busy public spaces and the importance of regular disposal.

The campaign’s organisers urged residents to treat cleanliness as a shared civic duty, separate wet and dry waste at source, use designated disposal points and work with sanitation teams to keep public areas free of litter. Sustained public participation, they said, would remain important to the effort to improve cleanliness across Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.
