Police allege accused was bringing narcotics from Nepal and supplying them in Yamunanagar; probe underway

The Crime Branch-1 team of Yamunanagar Police has arrested a Nepal national with 3.102 kg of cannabis in an alleged narcotics trafficking case, police said. The accused has been identified as Deepak Yadav, son of Shambhu Yadav, a resident of Nepal. According to police, the accused was allegedly bringing narcotic substances from Nepal and selling them in Yamunanagar.
The arrest was made as part of an ongoing district-wide crackdown on drug trafficking being conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal. A police spokesperson said teams across the district have been directed to take strict action against people allegedly involved in the illegal trade of narcotic substances.
Crime Branch-1 in-charge Raj Kumar said the team received confidential information that a young man was moving around near Kareda Khurd village with narcotic substances. Acting on the information, a police team comprising ASI Manish Kumar, Jagtar, Kuldeep, Brijpal and Sushil was constituted to verify the information and take necessary action.
A Duty Magistrate was called to the spot before the search was conducted. Police said that the suspect was searched in the presence of the Duty Magistrate and 3 kg 102 grams of cannabis was allegedly recovered from his possession.
Following the recovery, the suspect was taken into custody and identified as Deepak Yadav, son of Shambhu Yadav, a Nepal national. Police said a case was registered against him under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Police Probe Alleged Narcotics Supply Network
Raj Kumar said preliminary questioning indicated that the accused was working at a plywood factory in the city. Police further alleged that he used to bring narcotic substances from Nepal and subsequently supply them in Yamunanagar.
The police are now investigating the alleged supply network, including the source of the recovered cannabis and the possible destinations or persons to whom the substance may have been supplied. Investigators are also expected to examine whether the accused was acting alone or was connected with other individuals involved in the alleged drug supply chain.
Police said the accused was produced before a court and taken on remand for further investigation. The questioning is expected to help investigators establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged procurement, transportation and distribution of the narcotic substance.
The recovery of more than three kilograms of cannabis has prompted further investigation into the accused’s movements and alleged links with the supply of narcotics in the district. Police are examining the available information to establish the full sequence of events and determine whether other persons were involved.
The case is part of the district police’s continuing efforts to identify and act against alleged drug traffickers. The police spokesperson said all teams are working under the supervision of SP Kamaldeep Goyal to take action against people suspected of involvement in the illegal narcotics trade.
Police said confidential information provided by members of the public can play an important role in identifying suspected drug activity. Information regarding the movement, storage or sale of narcotics can help law-enforcement teams conduct targeted investigations and take action in accordance with the law.
The Crime Branch-1 team’s operation began after the receipt of the confidential information regarding the suspect’s presence near Kareda Khurd. The police then constituted a team and involved a Duty Magistrate in the search procedure before conducting the alleged recovery.
The involvement of a magistrate during the search was also noted by police as part of the procedure followed during the operation. The recovered substance has been taken into police custody as evidence, while the investigation continues to establish its source and the alleged purpose for which it was being transported.
Police have not disclosed further details about the alleged network at this stage. Such information is expected to emerge as the investigation progresses and the accused is questioned during the remand period.
The accused remains an alleged offender at this stage, and the allegations against him will be subject to the judicial process. The registration of a case under the NDPS Act and the recovery claimed by police form the basis of the ongoing investigation.
The police spokesperson reiterated that the district police would continue its campaign against drug trafficking and take legal action against those found involved in the possession, transportation, supply or sale of prohibited narcotic substances.
The operation also underlines the police focus on intelligence-based action against suspected drug activity in rural and semi-urban areas of the district. Police teams are continuing to gather information about suspected narcotics networks and their movement routes.
The investigation into Deepak Yadav’s alleged role in bringing cannabis from Nepal and supplying it in Yamunanagar is now underway. Police said further details regarding the source of the narcotics, possible associates and the wider supply chain would become clear as questioning and investigation progress.
