Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell recovers two scooters; police say one accused resumed thefts soon after getting bail

The Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell of Yamunanagar police has arrested two men in connection with alleged scooter thefts and recovered two stolen Activas from their possession, police said. The arrests were made under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal as part of the district police’s ongoing drive against vehicle theft and property-related crime.
According to the police spokesperson, the arrested accused have been identified as Kartik alias Billa, son of Buddh Prakash, a resident of the area near Canal Track, Street No. 6, and Rashid alias Savina, son of Dilshad, a resident of Raipur village.
Police said the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell received confidential information that two youths would attempt to cross the Kalanour border and travel towards Uttar Pradesh on a stolen Activa. Acting on the information, a team was constituted under the supervision of cell in-charge Rajesh Kumar.
The team included ASI Randhir Singh, Husn, Head Constables Hardeep and Ravinder, and police personnel Sandeep and Naresh. The team reached the indicated location and established a checkpoint. Vehicles travelling through the area were being checked as part of the operation.
After some time, police personnel spotted two youths riding an Activa. According to the police, the two men noticed the checking operation and attempted to flee. The police team pursued them and managed to apprehend both suspects a short distance away.
During questioning, the suspects were identified as Kartik alias Billa and Rashid alias Savina. Police subsequently recovered two Activas allegedly linked to separate theft incidents in Yamunanagar.
The police said one of the recovered Activas had allegedly been stolen on September 2 from an area near Raman Hotel in Model Town. During investigation, the accused also allegedly disclosed their involvement in another scooter theft reported on August 29 from Model Colony.
The recovery of two Activas has provided investigators with an opportunity to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged thefts and determine whether the accused were involved in any other similar incidents. Police said further investigation would focus on establishing the complete sequence of events and checking for their involvement in additional vehicle theft cases.
Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell in-charge Rajesh Kumar said the operation was conducted on the basis of specific intelligence regarding the movement of the suspects. The checkpoint was established promptly and the suspects were intercepted before they could allegedly cross into Uttar Pradesh.
Police also highlighted the criminal record of the two arrested men. According to the police, Kartik alias Billa had previously been booked in 13 theft cases, while nine cases had been registered against Rashid. Police said the cases are currently pending before the court.
The police further said Kartik had been released on bail from jail on August 18 and allegedly resumed theft-related activities soon after his release. This aspect is also being examined as part of the investigation.
The arrests form part of the Yamunanagar police’s efforts to prevent vehicle theft and trace stolen vehicles. Such investigations typically involve checking information about recently reported thefts, examining the movement of suspects and verifying recovered vehicles with existing police records.
Police said the recovered Activas were taken into custody as evidence in the investigation. The identities of the arrested suspects and the details of the alleged theft incidents were verified during the police proceedings, while further legal action is being taken in accordance with the law.
The operation also highlights the role of intelligence-based checking in tackling vehicle theft. According to the police, information about the suspected movement of stolen vehicles towards the Uttar Pradesh border enabled the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell to deploy a team and conduct checking at the appropriate location.
The police have continued to focus on routes that may be used for moving stolen vehicles outside the district. Interception before a stolen vehicle leaves the area can assist investigators in recovering property and identifying the people allegedly involved in organised or repeated thefts.
In the present case, the two Activas allegedly linked to thefts in Model Town and Model Colony were recovered following the interception of the suspects. Police said the investigation would also examine whether the accused had disposed of or transferred any other stolen vehicles and whether other persons were involved.
The criminal history cited by police will also form part of the investigation. The police said both accused have multiple previous theft cases registered against them and that these matters are currently under consideration before the courts. Their alleged involvement in the latest incidents will be dealt with through the ongoing legal process.
Following their arrest, both accused were produced before the court and were subsequently sent to judicial custody, according to police.
The Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell has been working under the direction of SP Kamaldeep Goyal to identify suspects involved in vehicle theft and recover stolen vehicles. Police said such operations would continue as part of the broader effort to curb property crime in the district.
The latest arrests also serve as a reminder for vehicle owners to remain cautious about the security of their two-wheelers. Proper locking systems, parking vehicles at secure locations and promptly reporting thefts can assist police in tracing stolen vehicles and identifying suspects.
For investigators, the recovery of the two Activas is an important development in the cases under examination. Police will now verify the recovered vehicles against theft complaints and collect further evidence as required during the investigation.
The police spokesperson said the action was carried out under the guidance of SP Kamaldeep Goyal, with the Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell team acting on confidential information. The two suspects were arrested after allegedly attempting to evade the police checkpoint, and two Activas were recovered from the investigation.
Police officials said the investigation remains focused on establishing the full extent of the alleged theft activity and determining whether the arrested men were connected to other vehicle theft cases. The authorities are also examining the previous cases registered against them as part of the legal proceedings.
The two accused have been sent to judicial custody following their production before the court. Further action will proceed according to the evidence collected during the investigation and the applicable legal process.
