Balwinder Singh held with suspected heroin during checkpoint; Mansoor arrested for allegedly receiving a drug consignment in a separate case

The Yamunanagar district police have intensified action against drug trafficking, with the Anti-Narcotic Cell arresting a man allegedly carrying 40 grams of heroin, also known as smack, on a motorcycle. In a separate development, the police have also arrested another accused who was allegedly supposed to receive a drug consignment in a case involving the seizure of 1.2 kg of heroin.
A police spokesperson said the action was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, with different police teams continuing efforts to identify and apprehend people allegedly involved in drug trafficking across the district.
Anti-Narcotic Cell in-charge Anil Kumar said the team had received confidential information that a man would enter the district through the Kalanour border on a motorcycle while carrying narcotic substances. Acting on the information, a team comprising ASI Amit, Jaipal and Jasvir Singh was constituted and deployed to intercept the suspected movement.
The police team reached the location and established a checkpoint. During the checking, a motorcycle-borne man was intercepted and taken into custody. A duty magistrate, Chhachhrauli Tehsildar Anand Rawal, was called to the spot, and the search of the suspect was conducted in his presence.
The search allegedly led to the recovery of 40 grams of heroin, or smack, from the accused. The suspect was identified as Balwinder Singh, son of Baljit Singh, a resident of Kabulpur. Police also took the motorcycle used by the accused into possession.
A case was registered against Balwinder Singh under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He was subsequently produced before the court and taken on remand for further investigation.
According to Anil Kumar, investigators will question the accused during remand to determine the source of the narcotic substance and where he was allegedly taking it for delivery or sale. Police are also expected to examine whether other people were involved in the suspected supply chain.
In a separate investigation, the Anti-Narcotic Cell has arrested Mansoor, a resident of Hamida, for allegedly being the intended recipient of a drug consignment.
Police said that around two months ago, their team had arrested Mohammad Salim, a resident of Bareilly, with 1.2 kg of heroin. The seized substance was estimated by the police to be worth around ₹2 crore.
During interrogation, police allegedly found that Salim was supposed to deliver the narcotic consignment to Mansoor, a resident of Hamida. Acting on this information, the Anti-Narcotic Cell subsequently arrested Mansoor.
Police said Mansoor already faces several cases registered under charges including alleged drug trafficking and other offences, with the cases currently pending before the courts. The police further alleged that he had been involved in drug trafficking for a considerable period.
The latest arrests are part of the district police’s continuing crackdown on narcotic trafficking and distribution. The Anti-Narcotic Cell is investigating both cases to establish the wider network behind the alleged movement of drugs and identify other persons who may have been involved.
The police said the interrogation of the accused would focus on tracing the source and intended destination of the narcotics. Investigators will also examine the possible links between suppliers, intermediaries and intended recipients as evidence emerges during the probe.
Police officials have reiterated that strict action will continue against people allegedly involved in the illegal trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances. The authorities have also urged the public to provide information about suspected drug-related activities so that timely action can be taken.
The arrests, however, remain part of an ongoing investigation, and the allegations against the accused will be subject to judicial proceedings.
